Who is this Jill Zuckerman on Hardball? She is saying that
she does not believe the Marist Michigan poll. She thinks it is still neck and neck. Then she said she does not think that Barack or McCain have developed a strong message on the economy.

11. Tribune always conservative, now owned by Sam Zell (also LA Times) who is nuts.
He's very eccentric, and the paper lost good editorial talent when he took over a couple of months ago. Corporatist, for sure.

LA Times has changed tone not for the better.

3. If he were twenty points ahead they'd say the polls are skewed or
being manipulated, if he's got a nice lead they say we're neck and neck...we have to have tremendous voter turnout...TREMENDOUS!

5. Translation: I'm a gigantic republican schill and I can't admit my guy is losing.
But pretending he's winning would be TOO big of a lie. So I'll just pretend they're neck and neck.

8. That's a meme I've heard for two days -
that neither one has "found their voice" on the economic crisis.

I heard it first on WaPo's daily Post Politics Podcast. They had a Wall Street expert on and he said neither one of them understands the complexities of what went wrong on Wall Street.

I heard the meme repeated on teevee last night, and now it's on every show.

I think you can trace it back to Chris Cilliza and the interview he did on PPP.

Seems he likes the sound of it and repeats it every time he's on the tube.

Yeah, that Wall Street thing is really hard to understand. Like Obama isn't as smart as all the frat rats who make up the armies of Investment Bankers!

12. And Zuckerman probably heard him say the same thing
on another show, so now they're echoing each other.

10. She's a dingbat...
She used to be Tom Kean Jr's campaign manager and a Bush operative in NJ's GOP. I have no clue how she got on Hardball....they are running out of Trolls to trot out....

13. Face reality.
An undetermined percentage of voters are lying in the polls because they don't want to be called "racist." We won't know until after the election how many people mislead pollsters.

McCain's the one floundering around on the economy.

15. Was she actually trying to say that the poll was wrong because
the women at the Palin McCain rallies were wild about Sarah? Do wildly enthusiastic right wing women's votes get counted twice or something?

She seemed less like a "reporter" on the McCain campaign and more like an operative FOR the McCain campaign.

17. She's a reporter out of Chicago...
... that is covering the McCain campaign. She has also always been a HUGE equivocator when it comes to comparing Repukes to Democrats.

For some reason, the reporters out of Chicago always seem to be overly critical of Obama when they appear on national media. I guess they don't want to appear to be giving a biased account.

18. She exemplifies the problem of reporters who cover one candidate almost exclusively
They spend so much time in the "bubble" with the candidate and his people, seeing everything through their eyes - which means they only see cheering, happy crowds and groups of self-selected supporters and friends who think the candidate is the Second Coming. They are part of the candidate's entourage and are moved about, catered to and dependent upon the candidate's staff to facilitate their ability to do their job. It's a very isolated viewpoint and leads to extremely skewed coverage - not to mention a form of the Stockholm Effect, where the reporters begin to feel that they're part of the candidate's inner circle and become very protective of them.

It's perfectly understandable that this happens - it's just human nature - but it's important to assess their coverage from this perspective.

20. She is a conservative who is anti-Obama.
She is not an objective observer and is a columnist for the Chicago Tribune which editorially is very conservative.
