Talking to my 4 year old about the Presidential campaign...cute
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 08:52 PM by holboz
As I pulled my daughter from the tub this evening, Rachel Maddow's show was on TV. My daughter asked what the show was about and I said it's about people who want to be president. Obama was on and I explained, "I want that man to be president because I think he'll do a good job." Then McCain came on and I said, "I don't want him to be president because he tells lots and lots of fibs. He lies and cheats so I don't want him to be president."

She asked, "But what if he becomes president? Will you be really cross?"
I said, "Yes. I'll be very very cross! I don't like it when liars and cheaters win."
"I don't like cheater cheater pumpkin eaters. It's not playing nice when you break the rules," she said.
A couple of seconds passed then she added, "And I don't like fibbers, either. When fibbers toot they blame it on the other guy."

So there you go - from the mouths of babes, this campaign can be boiled down to a slogan that even the thickest of Americans can understand...McCAIN: WHEN HE TOOTS, HE'LL BLAME IT ON THE OTHER GUY.

9. You talk to her.
And answer her questions. You try to explain things.

Wow.

Not being sarcastic, but remembering how many people don't treat their 4-year olds with such dignity and respect.

10. My son (5 yrs old) said the other day:
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 11:05 PM by msallied
"Barack Obama wants to leave America."

And I said, "Honey, he doesn't want to leave America. Whatever made you think that?"

And he said, "He wants to be President! Presidents leave America!"

And then it made sense to me. "Do you mean that he wants to lead America, honey?"

"Oh yeah! That's what I mean! Barack Obama wants to lead America!"

lol. He loves saying Barack's name too. It makes me so happy to know that this generation is getting a fresher start, where the idea of a President with that kind of name won't be all that strange to him. It'll seem normal. It gives me hope for the future when I think about that.
