As an Iowan, and a proud Obama supporter, we turned to Senator Obama for a number of reasons.
First of all, he has ideas and plans, to run the country. As I was posting in another thread, he was actually criticized here for having too many specifics, and not enough sound bites.. so I find it amusing to see people criticize Obama for not having specifics. That is just willful ignorance.
Secondly we identified with Senator Obama. He is a Midwesterner, he speaks like us, with that halt in his speech when he is thinking. Here is is like first thing you learn.. think before you speak. If you ever listen to Garrison Keillor you will get the drift of that also. That hesitation as he thinks out a question, gave us relief, that here was someone who would listen.
But most importantly, he gave us hope. Hope that we could tackle the problems that were and are all too evident to us in what we will to face in the next administration.
The hope that we can do it together. Unlike President Bush who told us to go shopping when we were attacked by the Saudi terrorists on 9/11, Senator Obama included us in the solutions. We are an integral part of his plan to move the country forward. It is not what he is going to do for us, but what we are going to do together.
There is power in that hope.
This is why Senator Obama is going to make a GREAT president. And that is why we supported him in Iowa
