Former Palin colleague says VP candidate is only interested in helping herself, cronies

Sarah Palin's meteoric rise to political superstardom got its start thanks to Nick Carney, who soon came to regret the move.

Carney, who now lives in Ivins, Utah, has known Palin almost her whole life - his daughter went to school and played basketball with Sarah "Barracuda" Heath. He recruited her to run for office, but says her tenure as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, was a disappointment, where she looked out for herself and the cronies that she put in management positions.

Since Palin was nominated to be vice president, he has received countless phone calls from media outlets and he has given less than glowing reviews to his former colleague.

"I'm shocked" that she was picked to be vice president, Carney said Thursday. "And the reason I am has nothing to do with our personal relationship. As a voter, I can't believe Mr. McCain would pick someone who has no foreign experience, someone who has . . . nothing to offer for solving our economic woes, has, frankly, far less experience in the energy field than she would like to think she does."

Political debts: Carney watched as Palin fired many of the long-serving city employees, including the librarian, police chief and museum manager. She hired the former lawyer for the Alaska Republican Party to be the new city attorney. He said she was simply repaying political debts.

"Always, her first question is: 'How is this decision going to affect me and my administration.' It was never, 'Is this the best thing for the city of Wasilla?' " said Carney.

13. Basically! This is no shock.
In fact it's pretty much expected behavior, judging by what I've seen of her so far. She's just disgusting!

2. She's a Republican!
Of course she's in politics for herself and her friends. And she's demonstrated that she's willing to let herself be used by anyone as long as she gets attention and gets catered to.

5. Her husband, Todd, is behind every political move.
He wants to be the shadow VP - maybe president.

Their goal is to infiltrate other political parties and run for office. Mission accomplished-in a very big way.

12. "She is still the high school jock/bully/clique member." Precisely!
That's exactly how she comes off to me, just a snotty high schooler with a mean streak.

You really have a way with words, btw!

15. Why is that so freakin' easy to believe with just
Nick Carney's words? I'll tell ya..'cause all she's told are lies since she's been on the scene in my radar, anyway. And, the attemped cover up of Troopergate speaks for itself.

I think mccain's choosing her says a lot about palin, too.
