Joe Biden at Castlewood, VA and we were there! *Pic Heavy!*
It was a warm day in Castlewood, VA. My son Nathan and I arrived at about 12:45pm. We missed lunch so we got in line for some fish, hush puppies and more. It was great food with friendly people. This gathering was sponsored by the United Mineworkers of America. They did a great job!

After we ate we found seats at a decent spot and I was surprised to see Gov. Tim Kaine meeting and talking with people. I can't tell you how friendly he was and how available he was to anyone. Even though we were from TN, he was very happy to see us. Here is a pic of him with my son.

It started off with a prayer from a preacher and let me tell you it was long. Nathan, my son, said 'It's about time' when the man finished. The folks behind us laughed. After a few speakers Gov. Tim Kaine came out and gave a great speech. He's not the 'let 'em have with both barrels' kind of guy so it's probably better that Obama did not pick him for VP, IMO. Biden did say that it's very possible Tim Kaine could be a future president which got people clapping.

Anyway, Joe Biden was finally introduced and he came out to a rousing ovation. It was great! He was very passionate and he spoke the truth. This was mainly focused on coal, jobs and unions. He did let McCain have it and people stood up and applauded every time.

Here is a video of Biden and a small portion of his speech about McStupid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcDspQaekwc

Afterward, the audience was motioned to come forward and Nathan and I did. I had only waited a few minutes when Senator Biden came close. He shook my hand and I was so nervous all I said was, "I'm a vet and my husband is a vet. Thank you so much for everything you've done for us. He gave me a kiss on the cheek! I couldn't believe it!

Here is a picture of me with Senator Biden...

I let my son play around with the camera and he took this photo of Joe Biden.

Anyway, we had a lot of fun and people were great. We came away with a few buttons, a bumper sticker and a wonderful experience we'll never forget!

12. Considering this is located out in the boonies...
with only one small town a few miles away, I'd say it was a decent turnout. Looked like about five hundred or so people. It was mostly union people and I can't imagine a McCain fan wanting to be there at all. No one there likes McCain at all.

Everyone was very excited to see Tim Kaine and Joe Biden. It was a very enthusiastic crowd with a mix of people from every walk of life. They are very passionate about Joe Biden from what I saw.

I agree with you about why Obama didn't choose Tim Kaine...but he's good from
all the clips and snips I've seen of him. His heart and mind are in the correct place for us who know what has gone wrong...and I think he might end up in an Obama Cabinet.

Oh...to have logical thinking folks back in Government...It's been so long.....

13. I drove up from Kingsport, TN...
A guy commented to me that it's gotta be tough to be a Dem in TN. I replied, "Yep, it sure is...especially in NE TN." It was nice being around fellow Dems for a change.

15. My family that still lives in Abingdon deal with a mixed bag.
My niece who works in a bank has to bite her tongue all day long. But all of the family and family friends are true blue dems. Lots of those folks in the mountains are good democrats that's for sure--not what some might expect. . . .

24. cynatnite
I talked to you in line there. We discussed how we were both from Tennessee (Kpt.). I wish that I had stayed to meet Joe. We figured that he would be wisked off. Lucky you!! That preacher went on waaaay to long. Good grief. You looked so familiar when I saw you there. We had a great time. Glad to see that you are getting your son interested in politics at a young age. My mom did the same, and now I am a political junky. But in a good(liberal) way!:yourock:

I told Nathan to always remember this day and I think he will. I don't know how interested in politics he'll get. He got really bored during the speeches.

Hopefully, they'll have another event before too long. :headbang:
