Sec. Paulson is trying to bum-rush Congress and swindle the American people!!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/21/paulson-resisting-democra_n_128035.html

Paulson doesn't want homeowner protections added to his 3 page bill that is nothing more than armed robbery of the American people.

He doesn't even want OVERSIGHT of this bailout.

He wants FOREIGN BANKS covered in the bailout!

He wants to just BUM RUSH this bill through Congress without any question or adjustments by the Democrats!

He is talking about he wants a "clean bill" to get through Congress within the next few days.

People, if it isn't clear by now what is going on, Paulson's remarks should make it clear as water NOW. This reminds me of the leadup to the Iraq war. They are trying to play on people's fears (political and economic) and BUM RUSH a HUGE giveaway to their buddies on Wall Street through Congress in the middle of a presidential election! This is STRONG ARM ROBBERY!

The Democrats better stand up for something RIGHT NOW! Don't let Paulson do this without adding taxpayer protections, homeowner protections, no foreign bank bailouts, and OVERSIGHT. If they don't, the Democratic Party will be paying for this for YEARS! They can't be brow beaten into this by the Bush Administration. They have to think about the American people, regardless of the political hay some Republicans will make about it. FIGHT, DAMNIT!

2. Paulson is a tongue flicking snake
he is worried about ONE thing: His investments (I heard $350,000,000 in the stock market) and that is it!

He'd like to steal all of the money that belongs to the American people now, before the election!

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!

:kick:

3. 2001: Congress must pass the Patriot Act now!
2002: Congress must authorize the Iraq War now!

2008: Congress must authorize $700 billion now!

I wish Congress would say to the Bush Administration:

We refuse to be rushed.

Legislation should be considered slowly and carefully.

4. After listening to him this morning, my thought was someone in the Congress
needs to pull the emergency brake. This is way too much like going to war without bothering to think twice about it. They want all the power, immediately, no questions asked. You almost have to wonder if this is actually a crisis or something cooked up to get a large pile of cash quick before Obama takes the oath.

6. Yup. It's Wall St.'s version of the Patriot Act.
Pass it right away, no debate, no questions, no accountability, no oversight.

And yes, I do think the reason the banks want it to happen now now now is because Bush is leaving office, and they knew this might be their last chance to raid the treasury.

5. But why??
Cokie Roberts, yeah, that one, said this morning that there was talk and rumors that this was political. That they wanted to spend so much that there would be nothing for healthcare or any other program if the Democrat were to win in November. But, she said she did not believe in "conspiracy theories..."

7. K&R
Time to stop! No ramming this through.

Unfortunately I have a bad feeling that they may go along with it anyway because the repukes said "Boo!", and they'll add some amendments, but would say it was a "good bill" because they would let it "sunset" in January and go from there. :eyes:

8. Barney Frank smacked him down.
Today on Face The Nation Rep. Frank followed Paulson and his "clean and quick" remark. Frank said that considerations for the homeowners wouldn't "dirty it up" too much!

9. I've been saying this for days. This is armed robbery by *, Bernancke, and Paulson
it is a total replay of the Patriot Act and Iraq. Rush it through Congress by giving DIRE consequences, give no one a chance to analyze, question, or oversee the process, and then rob us blind. Dems better stand up for the middle class on this one. And I don't feel like something needs to be done by the end of the week. This needs time and thought.

And by the way, Paulson does look like a he's lying through his teeth on this one.

10. Paulson or Bush?
Paulson was put in his job by Bush and he most assuredly had to run this plan by the Decider to get it approved. The Chimp is not going to let any cabinet position formulate unilateral plans, especially ones as sweeping as this bail-out bill.

And since the Chimp himself is owned by his corporate masters, the ones he calls his true base, I can imagine who actually had the major input in formulating this bail-out bill behind the scenes.

11. congress is negotiating with a gun to its head.

my suggestion is to authorize maybe as much as the first $100 billion on an emergency basis (which doesn't really do much that the fed can't already do itself) and let congress take its time to put appropriate and necessary regulation and oversight and other into the bill, as well as some reasonable things to get from bailed out companies in exchange for this largesse.

12. Contact your senators and representatives TODAY
do not wait.

I even sent a fax to Senator Dodd's Washington office as his site doesn't allow emails from out of staters.

I would like to have wording in the bill that would give a time limit to any action taken - that this would be reviewed in 90 days by the new congress. I also don't like the wording that gives the Treasury unlimited authority to act. We do not vote for this person - they should have the immediate oversight of a congressional committee. In an emergency, a short list of that committee's leadership would be contacted to assist in making quick decisions if needed.

I like that fantasy that this is a democracy. I grew up with it and having a hard time letting go of that idea. We do not need a Treasury Czar.
