DUers! I need help in SW Ohio with economics stuff...
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 12:56 PM by rosebud57
I have a Rapid Response Team that is using an MSM newspaper site to refute smears and misinformation and attack Mccain and everything Republican. I created a blog to go with my user profile and I have branded myself as a nonpartisan who happens to be very interested in economics. The blog has only been up a week & I'm unsure yet where readers are finding it, but I am attracting comments from mccain supporters & need help holding my own as my econ expertise comes from googling and reading Late Breaking News articles linked from DU.

My blog

3. Sounds like you might have jumped the gun ....
Here is one valuable DU post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=114x43586

There is a BIG picture component to this argument: Conservatives want NO regulation and NO taxes, while Liberals want a regulated market, and REASONABLE taxes for citizens and corporations ....

It was CONSERVATIVES who deregulated the market, which can be directly tied as a cause to the current economic debacle .... It was CONSERVATIVES who cut taxes on the richest citizens and corporations ...

And NOW? .... The markets THEY deregulated are exploding, and they need OUR taxes - THAT THEY REFUSED TO PAY - to help the market resolve its problems ....

In short: Conservative economic philosophy is an inconsistent and FAILED system ....

They have privatized profit, and SOCIALIZED risk ....

They like to blame those on food stamps and welfare as wanting a 'free ride' .... But it is THEY who get the free ride ... enjoying the fruits of a secure nation, bought and paid for by THE CITIZENS WHO PAY TAXES, of which they refuse to pay for themselves ....

Good luck with your blog .... a parting image ... Paste it somewhere in your blog ...

5. Thanks to those who responded bu I really need help writing, I am writing all day & night on the...
weekends & all evening long on the weekdays just trying to keep up with refuting the smears. So if anyone can write some short missives to add to the blog or simply register so you can back me up when a Mccain supporter tries to refute my points that would be great.

Leaving now to do my 25 person walk list from the Obama neighbor to neighbor initiative.

Ohio is too close, we need all the help we can get.

If I could get every DUer that spends time on GDP to donate 30 minutes per day to commenting on this MSM site I would be ecstatic.

7. This is simple...
...the great "economic miracles" that supply siders point to can easily be explained away with three words. Modern Republicans believe in "borrow and spend" economics. It is worse than tax and spend because it greatly inflates deficits and pushes reponsibility on to the next generation. John Keynes would be appalled at what was being done in his name.

This simple website says it all:

http://reaganbushdebt.org/

About 90% of our current debt was incurred under three Republicon presidents, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.

As for budget priorities, the buck always stops with the sitting President. Only the President signs a budget into law. Only a President can veto bills. The President has the most to say about the taxing and spending policies of the Untied States. Period. The rest is wishful thinking by the Republicons who are trying to ignore the facts.

Bush got everything he wanted and then some, from out of control military spending to blind faith in deregulated commodity traders. This budget fiasco stops at his desk.

Deregulation was a prime component in both the S&L crisis and the current financial fiasco. You can't change the facts to suit political ideology.

Unless of course you believe in faith based reality...

10. Thanks everyone who read or responded, but I still really need a Cyrano de Bergerac...
I am already writing comments under 2 different logins on multiple articles per day & administering the Rapid Response team web site and email list.

I have carefully cultivated my citizenSmith personna on this MSM site I'm posting on, and I have developed a following. My blog Reality Bites - So we better roll up our sleeves and deal with it, was started just a week ago and though not promoted by me, has received enough recommends that it must be linked to somewhere.

I'm looking for short, 5-8 paragraph missives and help when a Mccain supporter challenges my econo chops.

I have so much on my plate right now, it's not that I don't want to do the research, it's because I need to be constantly writing commennts to refute the constant barrage of smears agianst Obama.

Yesterday I knocked down Obama votes present 3 times from 3 different people, among other falsehoods.

11. IMO the best single LINK for economic ideas on the topic of the day is
http://abnormalreturns.com . It's the best 25-50 of the best from recent economic blog posts, and it changes completely every day.

Remember Buzzflash.com? abnormalreturns is for economics and finance what Buzzflash used to be for politics.
