If you're John McCain, you know you're losing your Man of the People image when Newsweek begins a story:

When you have seven homes, that's a lot of garages to fill. After the fuss over the number of residences owned by the two presidential nominees, NEWSWEEK looked into the candidates' cars. And based on public vehicle-registration records, here's the score. John and Cindy McCain: 13. Barack and Michelle Obama: one.

Not to mention when it closes by noting that the car your wife actually drives isn't even registered in her name, but in that of her massive beer distributorship.

what's the big deal? I too have a car for every one of my houses (one house, not even mine.) If I had to have nine houses, I'd probably need 14 or so cars too. People need to give those poor McCains a break, it's not easy to be so rich. We can all identify with that.

Just keeping everything shiny must cost a fortune...

and a lot of foot pain. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes.

He's trying to relate to the fundie voters in Appalachia. I've seen shacks with multiple cars on blocks,parked in the yards..

She said "Well, he has kids, and you need cars when you have kids." What can I say to that?
