My only advice for the Obama team entering debate #1 - short can be good!
Our guy is well known for his eloquence and inspiration, but every debate coach will tell you there is always room for improvement. I've heard a few talking heads recently suggest that for the debates, Obama may want to simplify his answers to few questions. Simply put, not ramble on as much. Less head - more fist!

For select questions, I do think it would serve Obama well to give shorter answers. And I would love to see him hit McBush hard on his flip-flopping and lock-step allegiance to the criminal regime.

On balance, I think Barack Obama should stick with the themes that got him this far. On command of the issues and offering a new and innovative approach to the problems we face, I think Obama will plaster McBush at the podium --- just add a few short and sweet sound bites for the YouTube crowd the next day.

Anything else you see Obama needs to adjust or be weary of entering Friday's pres debate?

2. Brevity is good.
Obama did this brilliantly at his DNC acceptance speech, when he summed up his and our reaction to the Republican's many crimes and abuses with one word: "ENOUGH!"

3. I read where his campaign is well aware of that --
that Obama (being an intelligent, thinking, person) likes to think things through, present options, why he's arrived at his opinion, etc.

They know his strengths and weakness in the debate arena (as does he) so they're on it.

IMO, Biden has a similar approach -- he knows so much he tries to cram all the pertinent background info into his answer -- and he could use some short and sweet practice, too.

That being said, even when they're not as concise as they could be, they never fail to get the point across, and do it in a way that people understand what they're saying. That's totally not the case with McCain.

10. I have no doubt they've purchased a stop watch....
.... as well as a thesaurus for the purpose of finding smaller words for him to use ...... ya know, so McCain will understand. :-)

But yeah, seriously, I believe we will see a significant improvement on his debating skills Friday night ..... and THEN we can safely say he is perfect in every way. ;)

5. One important point.

The surge was just a tactic. The more important question was weather to commit the forces in the first place.

8. Yes - the last year's surge is one thing. 5 years of horrendous failure in Iraq before it....
..is another!

And making the mistake to go to war, and lying to the public about why we went - should be the focus.

11. do we think he can discuss evidence of ethnic cleansing....
.... as yet another reason why the "surge" appears to have been successful.

Or is that too convoluted?

6. The theme is foreign policy
it favors Mcccain so if Obama can hold even there he will come out looking good.

13. Why does everyone buy into the "McCain is stronger on FP" line? He certainly
hasn't done anything to exhibit his expertise or understanding of the arena.

What PRECISELY makes him 'stronger' on FP?

(Not necessarily asking you, obiden, just rhetorical frustration)

And welcome to DU! :hi:
