Vacationing on Fiji, Psychologist Meets the Real, Racist McCain
The BlueOregon blog reports on a psychologist's vacation trip to Fiji where she met John McCain and his wife and learned a great deal about him in all his racist, anti-woman, bellicose reality:

As reported by Abrams at BlueOregon blog.
www.blueoregon.com/2008/09/character-matte.html

MY HOLIDAY WITH JOHN McCAIN

It was just before John McCain’s last run at the presidential nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including Bridget (their adopted Bangladeshi child).

It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close quarters with John McCain for almost a week, since Turtle Island has a small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other intimately.

....Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego and his rude behavior towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have some redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from Bangladesh. I asked him about this one day, and his response was shocking: “Oh, that was Cindy’s idea – I didn't have anything to do with it. She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me. You can't imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black thing around in a shopping cart in Arizona . No, it wasn't my idea at all.”

.........I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic of the active US bombing of Iraq at that time. I was shocked when he said, “If I was in charge, I would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson”. Given McCain’s personal experience with the horrors of war, I had expected a more balanced point of view. I commented on the tragic consequences of the nuclear attacks on Japan during WWII –- but no, he was not to be dissuaded. He went on to say that if it was up to him he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on Japan. I rapidly extricated myself from this conversation as I could tell that his experience being tortured as a POW didn't seem to have mellowed out his perspective, but rather had made him more aggressive and vengeful towards the world.

Definitely worth reading the whole article, it is horrifyinhg.

I don't have alot of respect for John McCain these days, actually he makes sick to my stomach. But that quote about his adopted daughter is beyond the pale. I'd need a lot of back of verification.

20. Writer for Blue Orgeon Blog Says He Verified Story
By Marc Abrams of BlueOregon Blog, http://www.blueoregon.com/2008/09/character-matte.html.)

According to Abrams:

"This description of being trapped on an island -- albeit a high end resort -- with John McCain has been making the rounds on the internet. I took the time to track it to its source. It is true. For anyone who thinks John McCain has the quality of character or temperament to be President, pass this along (sorry for the length -- Kari will have to tell me how to do a "break"):

This shocking account was written by Ana Dubey. Dr. Dubey has a PhD in psychology and has a private practice. Her husband is currently a Managing Director of a private equity firm. Dr. Dubey and her husband are not political activists and don't have any personal ax to grind. In fact, in writing this account of her experience with John McCain, Dr. Dubey is acting outside of her own economic self-interest as she and her husband are among the top 3-5% of our population who would benefit from the McCain tax/economic policies."

32. Blue Oregon, a Progressive Blog, started in 2004.
Marc Abrams, who said he verified this story, has written numerous articles for BlueOregon blog since 2004, when the blog was started by progressive activists there. So, it is not a fly-by-night source. See their background links:

39. So? Talk is cheap.
That's why hearsay isn't considered as admissible evidence in a court case. Anyone can make up a report of a conversation. Equally, the GOP could roll out someone else who was on holiday there at the same time and say that it's all lies.

A VERY bad idea. You don't throw around charges like a presidential candidate referring to his own adopted daughter as "that ugly black thing" if you can't prove it. It blows up in your face. There's backlash. Please stop spreading this stuff.

12. Un verified. Don't forget the GOP are itching to make McCain look like
the victim any way they can. Stay away from stories with only one person witnesses. The truth that McCain is running ads that lie, that he is on the wrong side of economics, and all the rest are working. Don't fall for smears. We need more information than is contained in this supposed article. It simply doesn't pass the mustard and we shouldn't be involved.

Don't take the bait, folks. This is the McCain version of the Palin "banned books" post; both of which have probably been pushed to the forefront by Repuke operatives of Rove seeking to obscure the true story about McCain's assholishness.

DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT.

Update 3* 17/9 - NB. Am now advised that the author is Anasuya Dubey PsyD. Apparently Ana is a highly regarded person and a Clinical Psychologist who was operating and studying in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005. We are trying to contact her. If anyone can supply me with her email address it would be most appreciated. Please send details to john@tellingthoughts.com

Update* 18/9 - NB. Received an email this morning 18/9/08 @ 6.32 am from a Dr Michael Bower who claims to know Ana personally. He claims she has informed him that she has been speaking to a magazine which has requested her not to contact other media until a decision is made as to whether to go to print with Ana’s story.

18. If it's starting to get legs on blogs, so be it.
If it were a silly viral e-mail like the "Biden will step down" rumor, that'd be something to avoid or stop spreading.

Bloggers are taking their own risks to post this story. Time will tell if it gets validity. If the person telling the account is willing to have her name out there, there may be something to it.

So they can blame it on "leftwing" bloggers all over the internet. Those meanie leftists are vicious to poor, war hero john mccain.

If the author of this op gave a damn about this site or the dem party, they would get in touch with a mod asap and ask this to be taken down.

Let the originator of this story substantiate the article with facts and the so called vacationer come forward on her own.

33. Don't think so...
There was some limitied activity prior but I am unaware of any generally known "active U.S." bombing in 2000 and I highly doubt that this person was truly aware of the finer details of our involvement at the time. The statement is too broad and seems to refer to the actual Iraq war.

30. The most salacious comment..
the one about his adopted kid that makes everyone normal announce how disgusting he is, also is the one that seems highly improbable. Chauvinistic men insult women in public as a reflex. (Actually, he's not merely chauvinistic; he seems flat out hostile to women.) All of that's plausible. Describing your own kid to a complete stranger in such a disgusting way, while you're on a trip with your family, including that child, doesn't have the ring of truth to it. The comment also seems just tossed in there for effect.

Also, there is no 'Dubey' or 'Dubay' in the California state license base for psychologists: http://www.psychboard.ca.gov/ Of course, she could have moved but it also makes his 'facts' about her completely meaningless.

40. Yeah, this reeks of bullshit.
Planted story so they can try to smear us. This needs to be publicly discredited.

You want to crucify McCain on the way he treats his kid, call him out on the 2000 SC Repug primary.

The Bush campaign under Rove organized a push-polling campaign that called up thousands of South Carolinians and claimed that McCain's adopted daughter was actually his own illegitimate child. (I think Rove's goons claimed the mother was a prositute, but I wouldn't swear it.)

And McCain did this when Bush won:

If he's such a maverick, why didn't he give Bush a punch in the nose for insulting his kid like that? Even worse, he's cozying up to Rove and Rove's disciples...the same assholes who grotesquely slandered his kid eight years ago.
