"We do not support government bailouts of private institutions." ~ Republican Party Platform, 2008
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 08:21 PM by ClarkUSA
"We do not support government bailouts of private institutions. Government interference in the markets
exacerbates problems in the marketplace and causes the free market to take longer to correct itself."

- Republican Party Platform, 2008

No wonder McCain squirmed at his 10-minute/first time in a month presser today when asked whether Democrats or the
White House can depend on his vote for Paulson's proposed $700B bailout. The odds are that he won't be voting for this
bailout or any other bailout or else he risks the wrath of the GOP fiscal conservative/Club For Growth base. There is no
doubt that Team Obama understands the pickle McCain is in, which makes for interesting times in the week(s) ahead, as
Obama continues to feint as McCain ducks questions about whether he'll support the Bush II regime's brilliant idea.

3. Thanks. I'm surprised that no pundit has picked up on this yet.

I'll bet there won't be a bailout deal anytime soon, because Democrats will not want to be the ones holding the bag
with Bush II while Republicans sit out on the sidelines.

millions of dollars and an escape hatch?

9. Crap! I hate it when we agree with them and stuff...
But seriously, Obama can bury McCain THIS WEEK if he comes up with an intelligent rescue plan for this crisis. You just KNOW that McCain is frozen -- does he support his corporate masters or does he toe the Movement Conservative party line?

IMHO, Obama should 1) Urge that first priority be given to ensuring the property of home owners and the cash flow of small business and farms; 2) Demand that the Depression-era laws that regulated banking and thrifts be restored, and new investment vehicles (like hedge funds) be regulated; 3) Require that to the extent the federal government bails out a Wall Street firm, we be given an ownership stake and that the federal government be given a seat on the Board (until the company pays off its debt).

To Summarize: We'll bail you out, but your sorry ass belongs to the taxpayers!

11. Those are good points -- did you get them from Obama's speech in Green Bay, WI?
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 09:11 PM by ClarkUSA
Or are they things you thought up on your own? Because if you did, I like the way you think. And so does Obama.

Here are the points that would have to apply to any bailout plan Obama would consider:

• No Golden Parachutes -- Taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward the irresponsible Wall Street executives
who helmed this disaster.

• Main Street, Not Just Wall Street -- Any bailout plan must include a payback strategy for taxpayers who are footing
the bill and aid to innocent homeowners who are facing foreclosure.

• Bipartisan Oversight -- The staggering amount of taxpayer money involved demands a bipartisan board to ensure
accountability and oversight.

18. I probably got them from Obama...
I've pretty much agreed with him on economic policy the whole way. I didn't hear the speech in Green Bay (just his line about, "This is the warmest welcome at Bears fan ever got from a lot of Cheeseheads), but I'm sure he said something similar.

I've been reading a lot of "The American Prospect" and "The Nation" recently (highly recommended).

20. DEMOCRATS should not vote to bail-out these bloated crooks.
I'm NOT voting for any politician who supports this scam, regardless of his/her party.

On this issue (NO BAIL OUTS!) the GOP has it right. Now excuse me while I go throw up in disgust. :(

23. Wow! He IS a Maverick, ain't he?
He's twisting in a Rovian wind of his own device, poor widdle maverick..

Maybe he can have Palin explain this, take all the Heat so he can dump her ass in the Tundra somewhere with a 55 gallon drum, instructed not to return to DC until she fills it with a paper funnel :)

Wonderful Find!! It's Republican Hypocrite 101!

Hammer this in emails to ALL the media until they're forced to pick it up..

Ace McCain is going Down in his sixth and final flight as Pilot of the SS Country First! He's gonna corkscrew this baby into the ground so hard he'll be shitting up the back of his neck..

We had names in the Air Force for test pilots that flew like he did.. We called it the "B.I.T.S" Program.. "Brains In Trees"... :)
