John Kerry: McCain's stunt today "silly and impulsive and erratic".
Wow, JK but done but NAILED McCain on his ridiculous suspension of his campaign and postponement of the debate on account of the financial markets *cough* poll numbers *cough* collapsing:

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/paulson-senate-dems-reach-tentative-bailout-deal-2008-09-24.html

Presidential politics hung thickly throughout the meeting, held just hours after Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) announced he was suspending his campaign and returning to Washington to participate in the debate. McCain has urged his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to do the same and postpone Friday night’s planned debate, but Obama has refused.

Democrats defended that decision Wednesday night, accusing McCain of an attempt to inject presidential politics into the process with his presence, and that the debate should be held.

“The American people need to hear from both candidates,” said Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), the party’s 2004 presidential nominee. “This notion of rushing to Washington and grandstanding, frankly, is I think inserting presidential politics right into it. It’s silly and impulsive and erratic and doesn’t do justice to the process of running for president.”

Kerry noted that McCain doesn’t even sit on the Senate’s Banking or Finance committees.

“To the best of my knowledge, he doesn’t serve on any of those committees,” Kerry said.

3. Why does rating a thread "Must Read" not give it a vote for the Greatest Page?

John's said it well here.

Rachel Maddow and Tweety did a damn fine job summing up McCain's behavior today, too -- "How would you like 8 years of McCain's razzle dazzle?" :scared:

4. Yeah, I'm not sure how the new ratings work, and I can't tell
what ratings it has received.

13. "to the best of my knowledge"

This phrase has the odd effect of emphasizing the fact that the media needs to look at who is on that committee. They are the people who (with their staffers) will write this legislation. (Kerry is on Finance, which he became of member of I think around 2000 when he gave up his position in the banking committee. He knows exactly who is on the committees.)

I like McMoron but it might be more McGrandstand. The deal worked out will be the work mostly of Democrats like Dodd and Frank, yet this is attempt to claim it was his Superman like descent on DC that caused it. Chuck Todd was speaking of his view that the House Republicans were before this likely to reject the deal the Democrats would propose and that that would hurt McCain. Now, McCain does know how to use a phone and could even get an aide to type a Blackberry message, I think this does not explain his actions. He could even schedule a tele-conference, the technology for which goes back to the 1980s! In fact, it was an attempt to take credit for the broad points Obama put out first and to be the "bi-partisan one".

He could have made that point JUST BY GOING TO DC. I think his actions went into overkill. How does stopping ads conflict with leading Congress? (when he is not on the relevant committees and has no real background in these issues - he really doesn't know much about economics.) He also said he was stopping fundraising - but I thought he took the government financing. Either way, as long as he is not personally doing it, where is the conflict?

Kerry is right with the word "erratic".

that he was flying immediately to DC. Oh, and that quote from Kerry was from yesterday after a closed session meeting.
