Economist Magazine - Fiscally Conservative - Almost Seems Pro-Obama?
The Economist is generally a conservative magazine, kind of like a center right version of the New Yorker. However, in this week's issue on the current financial crisis, the magazine has been pretty supportive of Obama's calm, reassuring approach to the crisis, in contrast to McCain frantic, political grandstanding approach. The Economist has been supportive of Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, as well as Bill Clinton, so it is kind of center right.

So, it is interesting that the Magazine is starting to tilt towards Obama in recent articles despite his endorsement of financial regulation. My take is that this may be as much a reflection of the views on McCain's temperment, as it is on McCain's economic policies.

1. Took them a long time to learn the truth: conservative wingnuts are economic fools.

2. Not that surprising - they grudgingly endorsed Kerry the last time round
YOU might have thought that, three years after a devastating terrorist attack on American soil, a period which has featured two wars, radical political and economic legislation, and an adjustment to one of the biggest stockmarket crashes in history, the campaign for the presidency would be an especially elevated and notable affair. If so, you would be wrong. This year's battle has been between two deeply flawed men: George Bush, who has been a radical, transforming president but who has never seemed truly up to the job, let alone his own ambitions for it; and John Kerry, who often seems to have made up his mind conclusively about something only once, and that was 30 years ago. But on November 2nd, Americans must make their choice, as must The Economist. It is far from an easy call, especially against the backdrop of a turbulent, dangerous world. But, on balance, our instinct is towards change rather than continuity: Mr Kerry, not Mr Bush.
...
The incompetent or the incoherent?

Given their main objection to Kerry seemed to be his speaking style, I'm not surprised if they think Obama will make a decent president.

4. British conservatives are somewhere to the left of Lieberman.
America has veered so far to the right in the last 30 years that our "liberal" leaders are actually pretty centrist by most sane standards.
