9. How is that statement at all sexist?
I guess some people like her voice. It's not really the voice or how she looks, it is the policy, you are correct. And you are NOT sexist. :hi:

4. Irritating?
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 12:27 AM by jberryhill
To irritate us, I don't know, you know? Reporters! Oh and John McCain is an honor to be leading us to more job creation, because when Putin rears his ugly head in that airspace Canada is our neighbor. Not blinking or second-guessing because their friends include us.

I'll get some and bringemmtoya!

5. Three points -
1) The Palin-haters, and especially the Palin voice-haters -- well, lets just say their elitism is showing.

2) Yes, it's not a pretty voice, but -

3) The voices of most of today's women, even in the epicenters of cultural power, (NYC here myself) are nothing to write home about. Sure, the blonde trustafarians in $3,000-a-month apartments may be a little more bon chic bon genre than Alaska Sarah, but they're horses of the same feather (to mangle some metaphors) when it comes to voice -- every short e turns into a short a -- nothing's a "best bet" anymore, it's a "baast baaat" -- they speak in strangulated valley girl, gargling from the back of their throats, and all things considered, sound like nothing so much as the daughters of The Penguin from Batman, or a particularly pissed-off Aflack duck.

6. Her voice and her exaggerated expressions and...
...cutesy mannerisms are cringe worthy. Like when she was explaining the Russia plane coming into air space...it was like "where is it going to go" in a tone that could have had a DUH! at the end. As if all planes leaving Russia fly west over Siberia to Alaska. It's the most annoying thing!! She'd be perfect for the shopping network and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near government, which is bad enough without her help. I bet she doesn't get re-elected.

8. As much as I detest Palin...
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 01:39 AM by snake in the grass
...I find comments like this silly and reminiscent of the wingnut attacks on Hillary's voice. I have been living in Europe for 22 years and have associated with or been involved with women from all over the continent and I have heard them speak English as well as their native languages, all of which I find quite stimulating. I've reached a point, however, where I find the voice of a U.S. woman grating and irritating (Southern dialect is worse by a factor of 10). That stupid mix of valley girl vapidness combined with a sing-song element, spoken through what sounds like a mouthful of mashed potatoes, is a real turn-off (the best example which comes to the top of my head is the turning of the phrase 'Oh, my god' into a single word, which in moments of excitement is screeched over and over again). It seems at some point in the evolution of the English language in North America extreme inflexion became a desired trait. For the rest of the world it sounds mindless.

Of course, I would never be so insensitive and actually tell anybody this.
