In defense of Palin's "performance"
Let's be fair. A lot of her incoherence was due to her being stuck defending the indefensible, like Rick Davis, McCain's history as a deregulator and the Republicans' moronic talking point that Russia being close to Alaska is in some way relevant to her foreign policy experience (who the hell thought that one up?). The rest was due to her just not knowing much about the many issues hitting America and being poor at expressing herself due to lack of confidence.

So I think she's more ignorant than actually, truly stupid. She's certainly no less dangerous, though.

1. Fair is saying she is entirely out of her element.

2. *I* could do a better job and I don't even *like* McCain.
I could think of 20 better responses to the questions she's been asked, and I d.e.t.e.s.t. the Senator from Arizona.

4. Actually, I think her incoherence is due to the fact that she's incoherent . . .
She's an unusually shallow thinker, apparently good at scheming and stab-em-in-the-back politics, whose world view is some soft-headed mishmash of magical thinking and resentful let-god-sort-em-out christianism. On top of that, she's been thrown into the deep end of the pool and her handlers are trying to force-feed her facts like a duck being prepped for conversion into pâté. No shocker that her brain is swelling.

When I watch her drooling out strings of barely connected ideas, vomiting gouts of chirpy smegma in faint hope that she can hawk up a coherent lump, I just want to yell "enough."

5. Be fair to her? Why?
She's losing her confidence because she can read the hell out of the teleprompter and give a speech, but when she actually has to answer a question from someone that isn't Sean Hannity, she is practically tongue-tied. That's the reason they have kept her hidden from the press corps. I don't think she is stupid, either. But she is dangerously under-informed about a great many things. She can field-dress a moose. When that becomes something a Vice President would be routinely called on to do, she'd be the first one I would call. Until then, she can go back and govern Alaska. (And the things she was questioned about were not indefensible, they were questions that pertained to the campaign and ticket she is running on. They were valid questions.)

8. She may not be stupid.
But, based on her education, she is of average intelligent or possibly below average.

9. I agree completely
And I'm saying that the things she was questioned about were valid questions but that they are still indefensible because the McCain campaign has been so awful and self-contradictory that no one could answer them without dodging the question or outright lying (which is what the more talented surrogates do).

I thought she was supposed to be such a shrewd politician - then why is she allowing herself to be paraded around like a horny monkey by the male leaders of the GOP?

You can't blame her for dodging or long pauses on some of this stuff.

I also you are correct that she is more ignorant than stupid. Sarah Palin is not stupid...

(she just thinks god's on her side)

18. I am a Democrat.
I don't have to be fair to Repugs.

They have raped our country, crashed our economy, pissed on our Constitution, killed tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi's, and thousands of our troops, let thousands suffer after hurricanes, promoted torture, soiled America's good name, and employed police state tactics hear at home.

I don't have to be fair to slugs like that.

How many schools did she have to transfer to again to get a Bachelors Degree in Journalism? The number was quite high to squak out a degree from state college in Alaska.

25. Nope, not buying it

Ignorance can be corrected. She's been studying for weeks and still doesn't even get the most basic shit right yet. And I don't care what you say, anyone who thinks living next door to Russia equates with Foreign Policy experience, or that they have two foreign countries in their state is not just stupid, but FUCKING stupid.

She lacks basic intelligence as well as common sense, and you can't fix stupid.

27. She's "ATE UP" an Army term for someone in over their head or
(more often) so scared of screwing up that all they think about is not screwing up (and getting punished)that they don't focus on the task in front of them and continue to screw up. It is a nasty vicious circle. I saw it happen to people first hand and it is not pretty.

The way to remedy it is to give this simple basic tasks so they can't help but complete them and then you praise them. Eventually everyone gets out of it but it tough to watch, like this.

So why do it? Why take up with McCain in the first place? She should have uttered her infamous, "Thanks, but no thanks."

29. I have no sympathy for her.
She put her ego and ambition ahead of what is good for the country. In fact, I would argue that it was over-confidence and her ignorance of her lack of ability that is exactly what put her were she is. She didn't have to say yes, but she did - apparently without even blinking.
