Holy Shit! For the first time in 8 years, Bush showed leadership...

Went out to reassure markets that the bailout deal will happen.

DJIA only down about 60 right now.... and it is thank to... (brace for it)....

George Bush calming the markets down. He's putting what little political capital he has left on the line to get house GOP members in line.

It took 8 years, but he did SOMETHING right.

Now... if he would've shown more leadership in the FIRST PLACE so we wouldn't have even been IN this mess, that would've been something.

He may just save the economy long enough to let President Obama have breathing room to enact the reforms that are needed.

Through the rabbit hole, folks.....

3. He owes John McCain and Sarah Palin quite a bit.
I never thought it possible, but they actually make Bush seem sane, intelligent and responsible by comparison.

8. Never would have imagined
it was possible!
Is this how they make repuke Presidents look better, send out someone worse?
We got a pattern Nixon made saner by Reagan, Reagan made better by Bush.....

14. I never thought about that.....

But you're right. It's how they smooth over legacies of GOP past.

I can't remember how many times in the last eight years I've reflected fondly on the relatively carefree Reagan years.

Thanx for the perspective, I'll be using that when discussing McNuts with friends.

5. I think Bush is relying on McCain to save his legacy
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:35 AM by EarlG
At this point the McCain/Palin campaign is making the Bush/Cheney administration look like eight years of relative calm and smart decision-making.

On edit: abernste beat me to it :)

7. He finally attempted to do his job, and amazement rippled through the world
creating a sense of something almost approximating reassurance in a cynical nation that had begun to assume Bush was already retired to Paraguay.

11. Not really
He didn't really show leadership in his address to the American people did he... where a call to remain calm was needed and reassurance given..instead he did his best to scare the sh*t out of everyone by suggesting in so uncertain terms that the economy and American itself was on the brink of doom if something wasn't done within the next 24 hours. Exactly the same speech he gave prior to the invasion of Iraq. Quick you must give me license to do whatever the fuck I want immediately or else we're all dead....dead I tells ya DEAD!!

Calming the markets down doesn't alter the fact that he's largely responsible for fucking them up in the first place. Let me think of a suitable analogy...let's say you go hunting with your buddy and because you weren't paying attention and because you're just basically a fucking moron, you shot him in the face. Blood everywhere, the guys in agony so you run over to him and hold a rag to his cheek to stem the bleeding. You might want some credit for stopping the bleeding, but it was still your incompetence, negligence and douchbag-egence that caused the wound in the first place. To say nothing of the fact that just stopping the bleeding might not be the end of the matter. The guy will still have a scar for a very very long time, the bleeding may start again soon and there may be internal damage you're not even aware of.

That's a good analogy also for that damn "surge" the Republicans and Bill O'Reilly are so proud of.

I know George Bush is out of a job in a few weeks and probably doesn't give a crap or ever did give a crap about the consequences of his actions, but really, where did he find the balls to stand up and make the same scare-the-shit-out-of-em-and-they-will-cough speech again. How did he expect America to respond after his pack of lies he used to manufacture the Iraq war? You want us to give you what in 24 hours?? You can fuck off is what appears to be the response.

This is getting freakier by the day, it's more bizarre than that whole storyline in Dallas where Bobby wasn't shot afterall and it was all a dream. I expect to wake up sometime soon to find that McCain didn't appoint Palin, didn't suspend his campaign, the economy isn't on the verge of collapse, Bill Clinton is out there campaigning for the Democrats again and Bobby Ewing in the shower.

13. Apparently he nix'ed Israel bombing Iran as well- his stock is rising
in my book, which isn't hard to do since he was at rock bottom.

He seems a little more humble and chastened now which is good to see.
