Research 2000 Missouri Poll: McCain 47 (-2), Obama 46 (+1)
This is the second poll in a day to show this race as a dead heat. Things could be interesting in Missouri.

3. I WANT MISSOURI!!!!!!!!
This is a state I really want for some reason. I guess because they say as goes MO goes the US, but while I don't believe that, it still makes it a really valuable state.

Let's take this or make McSame fight like hell to keep it.

16. Down-state fundies are the ones holding his numbers down.
Metro St. Louis, K.C. and Columbia will go easily for Obama, but we have a lot of redneck racists in Southern MO. Springfield is the national HQ for the Assemblies of God---Sarah's church----and yes, they speak in tongues down here.

I have been heartened by the large number of Obama signs---many fewer McChicken signs-- here in Springfield (more than I can ever remember for any other Democratic Presidential candidate) , and the responses when I have canvassed have been better than I expected. However, I am under no illusion-- a pig in lipstick will win on the Rupuke ballot in SW MO. If we cut into the margins by a percentage point or two here, and with the great outpouring from big metro areas, I believe we might pull it out.

I am going to try and canvass again this weekend.

Keep hope alive!

5. Don't underestimate the power of St. Louis and KC.
They're dark blue areas in an otherwise red state.

Mizzou had a terrific turnout for Obama in the primary.

9. That's true, too,
though given the rural surroundings and the fact that there's a good number of conservatives that attend MU, I've always considered Columbia purple. But you're right, the university does provide a nice infusion of liberalism into the middle of the state.

10. All we need to win in Missouri is:
More Obama votes in Kansas City than Kerry got in '04. We will get them.
More Obama votes in St. Louis than Kerry got in '04. We will get them too.
More Obama votes in Columbia than Kerry got in '04. Yep. Those also.

11. I haven't been hearing much about MO as a battleground
I don't see how Indiana can be one and Missouri not.

13. This shit's getting REAL!
I'm so excited! If Obama takes MO, CO, VA, NV, and NM from the Republicans, then Ohio can go take a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut if they don't get on board. This excites me to no friggen end.

19. She's been active, too
Missouri Dems are getting emails and robocalls from Claire urging them to put "100,000 boots on the ground" this weekend in Missouri to register voters. I got an email with a list of hundreds of registration/canvassing/phone banking events taking place tomorrow in the KC Metro.

The energy here is really incredible. We're gonna do this thing.
