I am a bit aprehenisvie about the debate
Obama did not do well during the primaries debates. He tends to - can you imagine - think, before he replies and it gives him hesitancy, instead of the sure fire that we are used to with every other talking head on TV. After the RNC he appeared on Olbermann - the friendliest forum he could have - and was really hesitant and stammered before he replied. Yes, I know. On DU Obama can do no wrong but a friend of ours, who is going to vote for a Democratic ticket, was really disappointed.

A consolation to me is next to old and tired McCain he should shine with vitality and excitement.

3. I agree. This may not be a slam dunk but I'm betting that our
man has been practicing. He knows his strengths and he knows his weakness. That's why I like the guy.

5. Two days ago, when he replied to McCain's bizarre actions
he was good when answered questions. I hope that his preparations included a quick response.

4. Don't worry we
all know that and agree with you. His uhhhhs and ahhhss and hesitant to answer is a real concern for TODAY, where every american will be watching and waiting to hear from him and what he will for us in these uncertain times.

I only hope he practiced his speeches and talking skills or hired a coach or something.

6. TV killed democracy
People want someone who seems like an actor portraying the president.

We don't discuss issues anymore, but "zingers".

It is depressing that intelligent answers actually can LOSE the debate for you, because the American people hate it when someone asks them to think. They just want entertainment.

Sigh.

14. Oh, such intelligent full of ideas response
really rare in DU where seeing every post that does not adore and kiss Obama as a traitorous. You could do well with Bush: "you are either with us or against us." Same level of intelligence and insight.

11. now, in all seriousness....
He is well aware of any problems he may have had in the primary debates. He didn't steal the show, but I'd hardly say he "did not do well." He survived a LITERAL combined attack by Hillary and John Edwards. John McCain will be a MUCH easier opponent.

He's had the Rick Warren thing to learn from ....... he did ok on that but McCain clearly won.

He is an intelligent man and so are those around him ...... I have NO doubt that we will see a much different .... much more capable debator than we have seen thus far.

13. So you'd feel better if Kerry was the nominee right now?
This certainly wasn't a concern 4 years ago. Fortunately Obama knows what he has to work on, and I am sure his good friend and fervent supporter John Kerry has given him sage advice.
O will do well. Worry not.

16. No use crying over spilled milk.. etc.
Kerry had a good story but a lousy campaign. Same with Hillary.

Just as when one looks for a job: it is not enough to have a stellar resume; one has to be able to sell himself to a prospective employer. So often the bullshitters get the job while the deep thinkers - don't.

18. Kerry kicked Bush ass in the debates
I had no complaints about that at all, and it just about made up for any problems with his campaign.
About 100,000 Ohio votes worth.

17. I think he will do very, very well.
It is his opportunity to really show his stuff to people that want to vote for him but don't feel like they know him or can identify with him. I think he knows exactly what he needs to do and will do it well.

My prediction: McCain will look foolish next to Obama.
