Carl Rove a genius? I don't think so
First, all sceptical DUers - calm down. They already threw everything they got at Kerry. They don't have Osama. They can't talk about jobs, economy, health care or environment. So they atack Kerry.

One thing struck me last night. Even Bill Schneider noticed it. This a transcript from last night's CNN coverage:

SCHNEIDER: In a way, yes, I do. I do because it was basically accusing the Democrats -- there were some breathtaking accusations. Look at this.

"Our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrats' manic obsession to bring down our commander in chief."

He's blaming the divisions in America on John Kerry. Most Democrats -- and I think most Americans -- would say, wait a minute, America was divided long before Kerry was a serious candidate. This country was divided over Iraq, and, to be fair, for one year after September 11, the country was united, and most Democrats supported President Bush.

So this was -- this convention and that speech is aimed at getting juices flowing among conservatives and among Republicans and among people who sympathize with this point of view. The idea is they want to bring them out to vote and overwhelm the Democrats. It's never worked in a presidential election. It's only worked in midterms. So we'll have to see.

If it hasn't worked before, it won't work again.

Bush might get a slight lead coming out of the convention but by mid September the race should be where it ws a week ago.

1. If they're mobilized by something as boring as cheney's dull
hate mongering, then yeah, they'll be real fired up (yawn)

2. Even Einstein made mistakes
Rove has taken the single most unelectable man in American politics and made him President. That is PR genius, my friend.

3. Psst, PS!
you make some good points, but you suffer from the same disease from which the Kerry Campaign suffers. And your willingness to buy into this argument is potentially fatal.

If you really think that Shrub and Rove have shot their political wad, so to speak, you are deluding yourself. The genius of Rove is that he NEVER, EVER quits, and only changes directions in his big plan when the cliff is approaching.

This man hasn't even needed to reload, 'cause he is carrying a full metal jacket. plus three spares in his vest. He hasn't even taken out the bazooka or the anti-tank 88. Hasn't had the need.

Rove had some input into the RNC, but he did not control it. He's letting others slobber on stage, revel in the pig sty and toss mud around like nickels. Swifties was one feint. There will be many others. Surprises in Iraq, Pakistan, Israel; economic # revision (already happening); skule # changes (ditto); and some October surprise and a so called new theme to attack Kerry just as he makes some minor misstep.

Everyone is human. Kerry will err at some point. At that point, just you wait and see how Rove takes advantage.

Rove has already tested his mettle and found him wanting. The reaction by the Kerry campaign is weak, weak-kneed and ineffective. Too Factual. Too much concerned with "proof" and outing of lies. No matter how satisfying it is intellectually, it is a process and plan that is doomed to failure with 61 days until we vote.
In essence, Rove knows that the Kerry campaign is a punching bag. Not reactive, not nimble. He will use that, again and again.

Gilespie is no Rove. You cannot compare the RNC with that attack dog.

4. Rove has tricks
They are already bringing up the fact that Kerry spoke to North Vietnam in 1971 in Paris about getting the POWs back, but they are distorting this into "negotiating with the enemy", even though it was not, and even though it was all done openly and above board.

l'il petunia makes some good points too.

It will not be over until Kerry is inaugurated. Maintain focus.
