Watching the Gibson and Couric interviews I thought several times: I could do a better job of articulating my positions than this... even though I have no foreign policy experience, no military experience, no economic experience, and am a terrible public speaker.
Why is that? Well... when we (by we I mean progressives) approach a problem, even one we are unfamiliar with, we look at the facts and try to develop a conclusion that is best for the American people on the whole. It's a natural process that involves logic and instinct.
The difference is, Republicans can't do this. The policies they form aren't for the betterment of the whole - it's for the betterment of the rich, the powerful, and the corporate. It's not a thought process that *should* come naturally to any human being.
Sarah is obviously small time and while she is well versed in her own beliefs on abortion, religion, drilling for oil, etc. - she has no background to base any knowledge of national economics, foreign policy, etc. She's essentially a blank slate in this regard.
Instead of coaching her on how to listen to a question and respond off the cuff based on established fundamental beliefs and logic, they are having to coach her to ignore her instincts and recite a party platform that 1) she is obviously not too familiar with and 2)isn't logical to most human beings.
Imagine if you or I were given the task of arguing the Republican view point. I couldn't do it. Half the time I don't understand why the think what they think.
Anyway... it's a theory. I lived in Alaska when she was running for governor. I knew she wasn't a brain surgeon, but she came off as much smarter than she is now. I've been baffled as to why she seemingly has lost 100 IQ points. But I think this could explain it.
