Well, I think we have to be very careful about setting the bar so low for Palin because all she has to do is have an average night on Thursday and it will hugely boost her performance.

I'm hoping for a Stockdale night (remember, "Why am I here." That was so painful to watch, even though he wasn't the Dem) but if she turns in a average performance, look out.

1. You are correct;. However, a caller on Stephanie Miller had a great idea
Biden should keep ceding some of his time to her - in the interest of letting her explain herself of course! (This could work on two levels, because sometimes Biden keeps going where he should have stopped).

5. Actually, Biden did very well in the primary debates. He was one of few

who stayed in their time allocation.

2. It might boost her with pundits...
but there are going to be millions of folks watching her that haven't seen her before, and they are going to be appalled by the stupidity.

4. Grumble, mumble.. er uhh.. GRIDLOCK!!!
That debate was crazy, but the SNL skit that followed was one of the best ever! Of course that was back when SNL had lots of great talent, like Phil Hartmann.

"if she turns in a average performance, look out."
VP debates are not usually game changers. I more expect Biden will coast to victory but even in that case it will hardly change anything. I can't think of one VP debate in the last 40 years which changed anything. The most lopsided in memory was Bentsen vs. Quayle. Bush won that election.

11. Sorry, but the thing to remember is...
Unless there is some glaringly huge gaffe, it's not really what is in the debates that matter, but how the pundits, spinmeisters and media tell the populace what is was they just sat through and watched.

The things that end up mattering are the things that keep getting talked about one, two and three days later. I mean, look at what SNL and the media did to Al Gore and the perception of Gore.

If Palin turns in a reasonably average performance, it is going to turn into a huge story about McCain's maverickism for days. Not only that, Biden is being sold as a pitbull and if she turns in an average performance against someone as tough as Biden, then that will also become the narrative.

So this debate is not meaningless.

6. This debate should be no different than any other VP debates, plain and simple.
We don't change the rules and that is what we should be screaming. It is not our fault the idiot picked someone so unqualified. That is his problem!

8. I'm not worried. Joe's a pro, but what makes me confident is
that most of the MEDIA, both TV & radio, are laughing AT Sarah...not WITH HER! Once people start laughing AT YOU, it's almost impossible to shake that image! Sarah started it herself, and many people & many in the media koked about her silly & incompetent remarks, but when SNL so successfully portrayed her as a fool, THAT is the image she now has!

10. We can expect her to spout a lot of idealistic platitudes to please viewers
Nothing substantive will occur and she will avoid or totally misrepresent all of her controversial views to appeal to moderates.
