Defending Palin against Couric
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 10:34 PM by dem629
Katie Couric is being accused of asking a "gotcha" question, putting Gov. Palin on the spot to name a newspaper or magazine that she reads. I think the criticism is fair. I mean, if someone asked you to name a newspaper or magazine, could you, even if you didn't read one, just think up the name of a single newspaper or magazine on the spot? Do you have any idea how hard it is to think of one?

14. And note to the mods:
I'm not trying to cause a stir, I promise. It's an honest attempt at providing just a little humor. I hope I didn't break any rules.

someone asks me what newspapers I typically read. NY Times, Canton Repository, Akron Beacon Journal and sometimes USA Today while traveling. Gee that is fucking tough.

13. I don't thnk this is in anyway an unfair question.
I think most bright adults should be able to come up with a list of what they like to read on the spot without having to think too hard. Example: "Oh, the New York Times, love that style section! USA Today, The Washington Post, The National Review, The Washington Times, Time, Newsweek, and for fun I read Vanity Fair sometimes and InStyle.

Couric asked a very fair question that was designed to bring out a little of her Palin's personality. Instead, Palin's defensive, non-answer points to her utter lack of intellectual curiosity. We've had enough of that over the last eight years.

19. That wasn't even a softball question.. it was a tee-ball at best...
When you can't hit a tee-ball, you probably shouldn't be in the game.. because most 5 year olds can hit a tee-ball. And, most 5 year olds can name their local home town newspaper too.. that might have been a place to start.

"Well, every morning I always get briefed and thumb through the Juneua Times.. " :eyes:

For fucks sake - I answered the question for her as I watched the interview...

I can not wait for Thursday. I can not wait for Thursday. I can not wait for Thursday. I can not wait for Thursday...

I don't think the moderators are going to have any problem with your post.

They're in a good mood lately, lots to be grateful for, not least of which is the way Palin keeps us in stitches!

Welcome to DU!

24. I can remember the paper I read 20 years ago.
The Detroit Free Press. I've read "Time" magazine since college. Wasn't Palin on any covers? You'd think she would have at least remembered that. Well, except National Enquirer.

31. Funny You Should Ask - I Asked Both Of My Kids To Name Some Newspapers & Magazines This Morning
My 13 year old was able to name both of our local papers & a bunch of magazines, my 16 year old named at least a dozen of each. Then I let them watch the clip of her stupid answer.

34. New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, New Orleans Times-Picayune
Terre Haute Tribune Star, Indianapolis Star, Newsweek, US News & World Report, The Nation, Mother Jones.

That's what occurred to me 15 seconds. If she can't even name the hometown paper where she's from, that's sad.
