McCain regarding Palin: "she hasn’t maybe been to Georgetown cocktail parties"
Second time in one day making a reference to Georgetown cocktail parties...

http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/01/mccain-i-have-confidence-in-ifill/

McCain also said during today’s interview that he disagrees with a growing chorus of pundits on the right who are critical of Palin.

“I don’t see a quote growing suspicion amongst conservatives. I see huge crowds, I see enthusiasm, I see people getting very emotional when they are in her company,” McCain said. “So in all due respect to other pundits I respectfully disagree and I think she is best tonic for America that we could possibly have…I say come and get to know her study her record study her leadership.”

He added that “she is an effective executive and has reams of experience and because of the fact that she hasn’t maybe been to Georgetown cocktail parties I am sorry. But the point is that she has the experience the knowledge the background the world view i think that is not only good for america but great for America.”

<snip>

“She has been a mayor. She has been overseer of billions–I don’t know how many billions of dollars of natural resources. She’s been a member of the PTA. She’s been a governor. She’s been a mayor. She’s had vast experience on one of the fundamental challenges of America and that’s energy…

“You and I just have a fundamental disagreement and I’m so happy the American people seem to be siding with me,” he said.

Asked about people who feel “very uncomfortable” with her experience, even among “fairly conservative Republicans,” McCain responded: “Really? I haven’t detected that, and I haven’t detected that in the polls and I haven’t detected that amongst the base. We get 20,000 people that come to our rallies. So again, I fundamentally disagree. Now if there’s a Georgetown cocktail party person who — quote — calls himself a conservative and doesn’t like her. Good luck, good luck, fine.”

1. Sounds like Palin's incoherence and rambling are rubbing
off on dear old John.

2. I used to live in the DC area. Georgetown sucks.
Only good thing about it is Halloween night and the canal cleanup every spring. The rest of the time it's full of snooty types like McCain. He goes to those cocktail parties. Palin would sell her mother to be invited.

15. I lived there for years as well - hence my ID
Only drove through G'town to get to downtown from where I lived and Halloween and when the Redskins won the Super Bowl (ex-hubby was fan; I'm a Steelers gal). No other reason to go to G'town ever.

12. Would those be the 'big spenders' he so proudly wanted to introduce her to
in DC? I mean, he said it at the convention, right? Or the day he announced her...can't remember.

McCain railing against the Washington Elite is as laughable now as it was when Fred Thompson did it at the RNC convention. I remember one of Fred's clips playing on MSNBC, and Norah afterwards laughed and said "Yeah, I've definitely seen Thompson at some of those Washington cocktail parties". And remember that Washington Post article (someone posted it here yesterday too) from 2004 about McCain throwing himself a HUGE birthday party in DC, with freaking every journalist imaginable in attentance, with descriptions of the lobster and expensive wine?

edit: Why did I just say Thomas ? I think that watching the Couric interview every day is rotting my brain.

Didn't he attend some of those with his friend Vickie Iseman?

9. Is that an attack on George Will and David Frum?
Is he suggesting that the conservatives who criticize Palin are Georgetown cocktail party-goers who are out of touch with the base?

The McCain campaign is basically a giant traveling Georgetown cocktail party.
