The last time the United States elected a new Democratic president was in the year 1992.
That was also the last time the Alabama Crimson Tide won the national championship in football.
As an Alabama football fan, I'm not quite ready to say that Alabama is the best team in college football, in only Coach Nick Saban's second season at the helm. But CBS Sports is predicting that they reach the title game against Oklahoma.
Comment: With Southern California loss to Oregon State on Thursday night and Georgia's loss to Alabama, we now predict Oklahoma will meet the Crimson Tide in the BCS National Title. The Sooners would be playing in their fourth national title game and trying to add a second BCS crown in the decade. USC's loss opens the door for the champion of the SEC now. Even with one loss, the SEC champ -- Georgia, Florida, Alabama or LSU could climb into the national title. The SEC has made its mark on the BCS title game, winning the last two (LSU in 2007 and Florida in 2006) and third in the past five seasons (LSU in 2004).
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictionsI'm not superstitious. And I
am worried about the Tide facing an undefeated Kentucky Wildcats team this Saturday. It could turn into a "trap game," much like tomorrow night's debate with Ms. Palin.
But I would love the symmetry of Obama winning the presidency just before another unlikely Alabama championship.
Last time, 'Bama beat Miami for the honors. This time, the game is
in Miami. ;)
