Discuss: How big a part do you think Race will play in this election?
I for one had hoped we were all past the idea of looking at someone and make decisions abut them based on their skin color, but I think I am being naive.

I've seen the topics discussed a lot lately on news shows and the scary revelation is that there are a large amount of americans that will vote solely based on color. Now one might think that we'd already know where and who these type of people are, but from I've been hearing it seems as if many Obama "supporters" are only saying they will and perhaps they want to, but ultimately behind that voting curtain, all alone with no one to pretend to be "PC" around, they will make a choice based on a long standing history of racism. This scares me to no end, looking at poll numbers trying not to get too excited, cause I think this could be a bad surprise come November.

The solution...Go out and try and register as many new young voters as possible, because evidence has shown that they are the group known to be more progressive and not see things so black and white (sorry for the pun).

Or talk me down off this virtual ledge and give me hope again in our countries ability to be more tolerant that our grandparents.

1. If he's winning in the polls, there is no reason he won't win when
ballots are cast.

I've never seen anyone in my life "pretend" to support a candidate.

Obama will win.

2. Aw, go ahead.
Jump.

Seriously, I think it will be about a 6% drain on the potential Obama vote. I think he's gonna win anyway.

4. this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter....

NEW POLL JUST RELEASED!!!

A whole SHIT-TON of people are voting for Barack Obama! Black people, old people, white people - including SUPER-PASTY white people - angry people, happy people - an entire gigantic F**KLOAD of them are voting for Obama!

Contrary to a recent article that states some TOTALLY OBVIOUS shit, I'm here to convey to you some other TOTALLY OBVIOUS news: people are fed up with Republicans and would rather vote for a 12 year old spelling bee champ than pull the lever for four more years of this crap.

And, in case you haven't heard, white folks are even putting down their basketballs long enough to vote for Obama in...INDIANA.Indeed, entire legions of pigment-deficient voters are casting their votes for Obama in...MONTANA.

In Iowa, where 106% of residents are white, Obama is absolutely crushing McCain.

Even South Carolina, home to racial harmony and understanding, shows Obama surging to within striking distance of McCain.

And if that wasn't enough, scores of overalls-wearing white voters (like myself) are having a dueling banjo contest in West Virginia to see who loves Obama more.

Personally, I've never in my life seen so many damn white folk excited to vote for a black man. Hell, not even Will Smith would be getting this many votes, and let's be honest, Will Smith is one lovable dude (though that Scientology stuff is kind of weird). The only guy who give Obama a run for his money is Wayne Brady, but I heard he's a libertarian (Paul/Brady '12?).

So here's my press release:

POLL: ENTIRE CRAPLOADS OF WHITE FOLK ARE VOTING FOR THE BLACK DUDE - CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SHIT?

The economy is in the tank. Obama has the brilliance, temperament, and vision to prove to the country that he's not only capable of being President but that he's going to be a damn fine one, at that. So ignore this shit, stop the hand-wringing about race and the Bradley effect and all that nonsense, and get to work trying to convince these people that Obama is the best man for job.

5. Here's hoping you're right
But it is a very real possibility that people polled are just saying what they think it the right answer. Some people don't want to admit to their social flaws and might say on thing and do another. So I will stay a little bit more reserved about these poll numbers for a few more weeks.

7. When I discovered that many telephone polls are automated, I backed off my "Bradley Effect"
thesis. The "white guilt"/PC effect you are talking about is more pronounced when voters are asked who they support in face-to-face encounters (as in exit polls) as opposed to over the phone. Furthermore, if the phone poll is automated, this creates an even greater sense of privacy/secrecy for the voter.

My point: We can trust that the major polls from Rasmussen, Gallup, WSJ, have a very low incidence of a Bradley Effect. People that support Obama will say so. Those that are wishy-washy because of race will say they are "undecided".

I will concede this much. Anyone (white) who is still "undecided" on election day is probably going to break for McCain.

6. Some, but not nearly enough to cost him the election.
