Confirm registration - YES! Straight-party voting - NO!
Voters!

We have two important alerts today. Please pass this email on to your distribution lists.

1) Check your voter registration. For months, we have been recommending that everyone check to make sure they are registered to vote. It has recently come to light that 19 states are not following federal law; they are purging voters close to the election.

These states are: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Delware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Masachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas and Washington.

But even if you live in some other state, please check your registration status right now – if you can. Otherwise, check on Monday. We have created a page to assist you. It’s here: http://www.votersunite.org/info/RegInfo.asp

If you have been wrongly purged from the voter rolls, don’t simply register again. Call your county election official to say you were wrongly purged and should be placed back on the rolls. If you do not get satisfaction, contact your state election officials. If you still have problems, let us know.

2) Don’t vote straight-party. Problems abound with straight-party voting – on electronic voting machines and on paper ballots. We highly recommend that, if you want to vote for the same party across all races, vote for each individual person separately, and don’t mark any “straight-party” choice at all.

Thanks!!

We don't have "straight-party" on our ballot, but I'll be voting straight party, individually.

9. I live in Maryland and I can attest to this.
I went to check and see if I'm registered. Well, guess what? I was NOT registered even though I've been voting for 18 years. I moved last year from Takoma Park to Silver Spring...only ONE town over. I changed my registration address so that I could vote in the primaries back in February. But for some reason, they did not have me registered in Maryland so I had to register again. I was so pissed off and very concerned about this...

10. the straight party thing is very important in southern states
where local Democrats have made sure they don't get dragged down by national Democrats. NC to name one example, doesn't include President in staight ticket voting.

15. So what does it mean
if you aren't found for one search, but you are for another?

I searched the Texas database by my license number and was not found. I then checked my voter ID number and all my info popped up as valid and current (and everything was correct).

16. Similar thing happened to me
I checked even though I was listed for the August primary....just wanted to make sure. I tried to look myself up using my name but I didn't show up. Then I used my drivers license number and I showed up. I'm a Jr. so I'm not sure if that screwed up the search by name function. If you showed up at least once, I would think you are fine.

23. You can still do that in some places?
I've never seen it myself, and California scrambles up the candidates so you have to search for everyone you want to vote for anyway.
