QUICK! I need a list of Obama's accomplishments. I'm on deadline! Please help!
A commenter at GoComics.com (the Conservatives have found me there and are starting to get nasty) had this to say about this week's "Banned Books Week" storyline in "The New Adventures Of Queen Victoria:"

lfdavis (Pro) says:

Now how about a strip on all Obama’s accomplishments. Except that’d only take one day with 4 empty panels… Or one of Joe Biden telling Sen Chuck Graham, in a wheelchair, to stand and take a bow, or one of Joe Biden introducing Franklin Roosevelt to a TV, or Joe Biden plagarizing another British speech, or Joe Biden describing Obama as “the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy”, or Joe Biden telling American’s of India descent “you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Probably won’t happen. Sungenis is just another gutless liberal who isn’t held to account for spreading lies

Leaving the Biden stuff aside for the moment, I DO want to take this person up on their first request. Is there a comprehensive list of Obama's accomplishments? I'll fill tomorrow's Sunday Page with the text.

10. Correction: FDR WASN'T the first President on TV.
Herbert Hoover was. And was BEFORE he became President, while he was Secretary of Commerce.

5. There is the big one that many are ignoring and
that is him crossing the race barrier to become the first African American candidate for president that is being taken seriously and most likely he will be the first African American President too. And it is especially significant because he is relatively young for running for the position.

6. from his Senate page
Barack Obama has dedicated his life to public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and leader in the Illinois state Senate. Obama now continues his fight for working families following his election to the United States Senate.

Sworn into office January 4, 2005, Senator Obama serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees our nation’s health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which plays a vital role in shaping American policy around the world, including our policy in Iraq. And Senator Obama serves on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, which is focused on providing our brave veterans with the care and services they deserve. In 2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee, which safeguards our environment and provides funding for our highways.

During his eight years in the Illinois state Senate, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. Obama also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama enlisted the support of law enforcement officials to draft legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

Obama is especially proud of being a husband and father of two daughters, Malia, 9 and Sasha, 6. Obama and his wife, Michelle, married in 1992 and live on Chicago’s South Side.

Barack Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment. In 1991, Obama graduated from Harvard Law School where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.

this doesn't mention his Constitutional Law professorship though....

That he has degrees from two of the top 10 universities in the country (Columbia, Harvard) and has taught constitutional law for 12 years at a third (Univ. of Chicago).

popular president it's good for trade and safety if people like Ameria again they will watch their back too. It will also boost tourism as clearly Obama's america will be a place people will like to visit and spend money. Even at move premieres you don't see crowds like that he is bigger than hollywoods stars he simply is good for business. This is how big the crowds are now with people only just getting to know him imagine his popularity and regain of respect America will have once he is more widely know.

9. Obama Has Lots of Accomplishments
First, regarding Biden - he is gaffe prone. There's no sense denying it. But, intelligent people do often say incredibly stupid things. The other side of that is that these Conswervatives don't seem to mind Dubya's gaffes - they see them as evidence that Bush is like them.

Sadly, my favorite accomplishment of his, "has managed to stay married to the same wife" is going to be blocked by my characters delivering a punchline.

17. Helped write/pass a law both sides supported protecting people from false confessions to a crime
This law required all police interrogations to be filmed, the law was in response to Illinois holding the record for the most people convicted of murder and sentenced to death (or maybe just found guilty?) and later set free when new DNA evidence found they couldn't have done it.

The problem in most, if not all of those cases was cops pressured/tricked those people into confessing to doing the crime, which got the people convicted.
