While the Obama camp has to respond....
They still need to try to make issues such as economy the subject of this campaign.

The McCain campaign was obviously anticipating that the Obama camp was going to bring up the Keating Five in response to their Ayers accusations.

This was exactly their intention. To take the focus of the campaign away from the real issues.

Do not take the bait Obama. Things might get very tough but we will win this damn thing!

1. The biggest losers of this election are the fucking handwringers...
whose belief that they can run a campaign better than Obama is never shaken. No matter how wrong they are. Over and over.

15. No fucking doubt
If he attacks, they say stay on issues. If he stays on issues, they say attack. If he does both at once, they ignore either, and say the other.

The Geniuses. The online forum geniuses.

2. Two birds with one stone...
The Keating scandal is economically related. McCain's character assassination attempts on Obama, however, have nothing to do with the most important issue in people's minds right now. The Keating scandal is actually pretty similar to what's gone on with the recent crisis. It's all a result of de-regulation and consequently corruption.

17. They can blame it on him all they want...
the public is blaming the Bush administration. Happened under his watch, he takes the blame...and so do the shills in his party that supported everything his administration has done with the economy, including John McCain.

18. Great point. NOW is exactly when the Keating thing needed to break, not a month ago.
With the Bail Out thing just happening and with the economic meltdown on everyone's mind,
now Keathing 5 IS relevant, very relevant, and people will "get it".

Barack's timing is superlative.

How is that not relevant to the current situation? This is not pulling some random B.S. out of a hat like Ayers. This is the issue that McCain has been HOPING wouldn't come out. McCain, up until now, had been engaging in sort of a "gentleman's game" in order to keep this shit from hitting the light of day. Why? Because this scandal was VERY real and affected a LOT of people, and McCain was ONE of the Keating 5! It's time hold that asshole's feet to the fire for what he did, because it dies DIRECTLY into the same bullshit that's happening with our economy now. Crooked de-regulators have run amuck and McCain was one of their VERY enablers!

Your problem is in assuming that John McCain is always one step ahead of us. STOP doing that! It's loser mentality and I'm so fucking sick of it. Have you not noticed what a dismal and horrific campaign that John McCain has been running up to this point? You might not remember what it feels like to both be a Democrat AND kick ass, but it's time to face that reality and fucking stop this hand-wringing bullcrap. It's unbecoming of winners.

10. Keating 5 was right in the middle of the S & L crisis.
It shows his judgement - that he was taking bribes from the CEO of a Savings and Loan that the taxpayers had to bail out. It's totally relevant imho.

12. Remember that McCain was censured by the Senate,
for BAD JUDGEMENT!

And that was letting him off the hook easy because he was a POW!

16. Shit - our other senator Deconcini, a Dem, was another one of the 5
and he did not win re-election because of this. And that is why we have Jon Kyl.

19. Obama camp knows what their doing! This is PERFECT timing for Keating to drop!
like someone else said, this is 2 birds with 1 stone!!! economy AND associations. What makes you think the Obama camp isnt ready? They learned from the primaries, at the end, they will throw the kitchen sink, and this time, unlike the primaries, they are READY!
