The mccain camp has now pulled out all the stops. I don't think the Ayers attacks will work, and may well backfire on them, they all but call Obama a terrorist supporter, and it's good to see Obama's camp responding the way they have.
But this attack worries me because it goes back to the same well the repukes went to to smear Kerry over his "botched joke" - asserting that he had no respect for the troops, when in fact, just the opposite was true. I want to see a quick, forceful response from the Obama camp on this:
------------------
McCain targets Obama's year-old comment on Afghanistan
(CNN) – John McCain's campaign released a new ad Monday that targets year-old comments from Barack Obama about the conflict in Afghanistan, calling them flat out "dishonorable."
...
"Who is Barack Obama? He says our troops in Afghanistan are ‘just air-raiding villages and killing civilians,’” the ad's announcer says. "How dishonorable."
...
"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there," Obama said of the U.S. mission in Afghanistan.
...An AP Fact Check later reported Western forces had been killing civilians at a higher rate than insurgents.
"Congressional liberals voted repeatedly to cut off funding to our active troops," the ad also says. "Increasing the risk on their lives. How dangerous. Obama and congressional liberals."

Yeah, it's slimy because it's the effin' never-served cowards who put the troops in harm's way to begin with, and it's slimy because what Obama said is true. But truth isn't the issue, perception is. This is one thing the repukes do well - question others' support for the troops, others' patriotism. They're so good at it, Kerry left the campaign trail after they jumped on his remarks in 06, so that he wouldn't be a liability to the party just before the election.
I don't think the Ayers thing is big, and I think the Keating response works fine. But Obama needs to hit this "doesn't support the troops" attack asap, and hard.
