Early voting in Ohio lackluster?
I heard (from reading a Faux News transcript) that the early voting in Ohio was a little lackluster. Anybody know if this is true and if so why? Does it matter much?

Thanks

2. Any information about turnout demographics?
This is meaningless unless we know who is turning out and where they are.

4. Heard a woman on Stephanie Miller say she had to wait 45 min
to vote early in Ohio. Sounds like a good turnout to me.

I am taking my MIL tonight to register and vote here in Toledo, it is the last day to do both. While we are there, my husband and I are going to vote. I will report on the scene when I get back.

and SURPRISE!!!! LMAO Faux news has it WRONG.
There is alot of people that are early voting!!!! As a matter of fact there is an occasional ticker on the local stations reminding people of the voter registration deadline.
And I can tell you there are NO McCain signs on our street. Only 8 Obama signs. LOL!!!
so you tell me who is benefiting from the early voting. Its Not McCain.

7. It probably depends on what section of Ohio you're checking...
I betcha it's brisk in the areas where voters had to wait 5 hours to vote in 2004.

8. I can only speak for Franklin County. But the Columbus Dispatch says
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 10:35 AM by ebdarcy
that 6856 people have voted through Sunday. That's more people than voted early in the primary. 60% of those who registered to vote during the early vote window were younger than 34, and 80% of the early voters with a party affiliation were democrats. One thing to remember, if you don't vote in the primary, then you are considered an unaffiliated or independent voter by the boe.

I can't find any numbers for Montgomery County (Dayton).

Thanks for the link.

9. Ohioans like to vote on election day. They think their votes might get lost before being counted
Seems to be the common response when canvassing southeast Ohio and asking voters if they would like information about going to vote early with local groups in the area. It is almost taboo for senior citizens, as it goes against tradition. People enjoy voting on election day and it is hard to argue against this because you don't want to discourage or sound like you are trying to school them.

I think what needs to be adjusted are the hours that voting takes place. They need to expand election day to a full 24 hour cycle. Mon. 7p - Tues. 7p. Over the weekend voting? Something that gives us more time for people to get to polls. I'm open to anything that improves voter turnout. Early voting is fine with me, but its a hard sell here in Ohio. Closer it gets, we'll see spikes in indicators.

12. CNN or MSNBC
mentioned it this past weekend.

The comment was along the lines of turnout was lower than the Obama campaign would have liked.

To which, I roll my eyes and say, show me the pics and give me the numbers.

The GOP is so worried about turnout they are in the parking lots video taping every person that goes inside trying to intimidate them out of voting.
I live in Toledo, Ohio and while turnout was not the 30,000 (for the city) that I wanted on the first day elgible it was strong and steady according to the poll workers.

15. I just went this very morning
In Medina County, Ohio.

People were PARKING ON THE GRASS because there was no where else to park.
The lot was full.
The line was out the door.
I talked to the lady there, and she said they was a line waiting for them to open at eight o'clock.

I always get an absentee ballot, as I'm always on the road on election day. I've never seen the Board of Elections that crowded.

Never.

I just voted for Barack Obama for President, straight Democratic ticket on all other races, and I feel damned good about it.

23. Honestly, I don't think it matters either way.
If he wins the state, and the victory of one side or the other hinges on this state, like 04 the RNC will litigate all the way to the SC to get all the early votes thrown out. As a side note, I saw them talking about this morning for a few min on F&F. Steve Douchy was beside himself with indignation that the Obama campaign were registering the homeless to vote. Evil bastards.
