Excuse me? Chuck Todd just said Obama/Biden are scoring higher
in polls scoring the debates because McCain and Palin are "being graded on a curve" and. Thus, have to jump through more hoops while Obama and Biden are "being given the benefit of the doubt."

Why is it so hard for these people to jst say that Obama is doing a better job and is beating McCain?

Good Lord!

37. He is starting to make it for me ...
I still think he is a democrat, I remember even two, three months ago, he would call things straight, and would have a little twinkle in his eye when talking about BO or other dems, but I think he has been fully assimilated into the corporate press - where you don't get past GO unless you carry water for the right wing/marginalize Ds.

I saw this segment, and it was painful to hear a guy I THINK is a D ernestly make a prototypical, counterintuitive right wing rationalization.

REALITY - McCain offers NOTHING, and Palin is a trainwreck/BO is the smartest, most decent and magnanimous MFer out there and Biden is sharp and clearly has a big heart. How that somehow means McCain and Palin are being viewed harsher is beyond any reason - particularly Palin who CAN NOT POSSIBLY be viewed harsh enough.

19. Damn Chuckie is stating the OPPOSITE of what I know is true.
The corporate media stars are TRYING THEIR HARDEST to make sense of what McSame & Failin say all the time.

People like Chuck try really hard to present McLame's statements and policies as though they were sensible when we know they will fail because they already have failed.

And I think that the corporate media management tells reporters they must bend over backward to hide their own preferences. So, since Chuckie likes Obama, he tries very hard not to say anything nice about him so he won't be called upstairs for a chat.

31. I heard him and you're leaving out a very important part of what Chuck Todd said.
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 04:53 PM by ClarkUSA
He said that McCain/Palin are being graded on a curve as to whether they will bring the change from BushCo policies that
the country so craves because they are from the incumbent party while Obama/Biden are given the benefit of the doubt
by the public as to whether they'll bring change because they are Democrats.

What he said was perfectly reasonable. You can fault him for other stuff he's said, but this statement wasn't out of line.

36. I think the comment WAS out of line
He said this in response to a question about why voters picked Obama/Biden as winners of the debates by almost 2-1 over McCain Palin. It's ridiculous to claim that this disparity is due to voters holding McCain/Palin to a higher standard on the issue of change. If that were the case, they would have ALWAYS trailed Obama.

I stand by my point - too many people in the media are falling all over themselves coming up with convoluted justifications for Obama's lead instead of just stating the obvious - he's running.a better campaign and is connecting with voters far more effectively than McCain.

35. He keeps saying McCain is being held to a higher standard
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 06:41 PM by EffieBlack
instead of the plain truth - McCain has actually been held to a LOWER standard than Obama and he hasn't managed to even meet that.

It's ridiculous to say that Obama is being held to a lower standard - flat out ridiculous.

For example, until about 15 minutes ago, it was Obama who was constantly being beaten up over the fact that a small percentage of a narrow demographic of white voters weren't voting for him - "why can't Obama connect with white voters?" was the refrain. On the other hand, McCain was never held accountable for his failure to attract more than a negligible number of black voters or for not even bothering to try.

Before the first debate, all we heard was how great a debater Obama was and how he was going to have to be a silver-tongued marvel in order to beat expectations. And when he did a great job, the pundits initially gave the debate to McCain - until the polls came in and they acted SHOCKED that people thought Obama had done a better job.

Obama not only has consistently been held to a higher standard and that standard has been raised every time he met it.

It reminds me of the way the triumphs of black athletes are attributed to their "natural" grace and athleticism while white athletes are praised and idolized for their hard work, commitment and heart. Obama's successes are treated as no big deal because theylre based on a "natural" set of talents, while McCain, the "everyman" has earned his every success and deserves a few breaks.breaks just because he's giving it all he's got.
