Breaking: US warplane forced to land in Iranian territory
Good Lord, is this the latest trick? Get a US plane to fly over Iranian territory, prompting the Iranians to force it to land? So there you go, an avoidable raising of tensions between the countries.....at an interesting time. Presumably the idea is that Americans will conclude only our brave, feisty war hero John can deal with this situation? I'm probably leaping to conclusions, but maybe not. Did I mention I DESPISE the Republicans?

13. Update
..Sky is continuing to report this, although they've now quoted the Pentagon saying all their planes are accounted for and they know nothing about this. An Iranian news agency reported that a US warplane encroached on Iranian territory and was forced to land. They say the crew are safe, but no other details available. Sky is usually reliable on this kind of stuff, but we'll see.

11. So, McBush has played his final card, it seems...
McCain and Bush had one last card to play; the War against Iran card. I had hoped that the recent events in Georgia and the market would've prevented this from occurring, but apparently McBush was too desperate.

So, if this becomes a hostage crisis, we could see McWarmonger try to regain some lost ground.

Pity on the pilots who might've gotten sold up the river to save McCrazy's career...

17. Update: apparently, the plane was allowed to leave.
After the crew was interrogated and that the Iranians were convinced the plane entering Iranian airspace was unintentional.

35. Reuters says 5 senior U.S. military officials on board.
TEHRAN (Reuters) - An Iranian news agency said on Tuesday that a U.S. military aircraft had violated Iranian territory unintentionally and had been forced to land in Iran.

The semi-official Fars News Agency did not say when the incident happened.

It said five senior U.S. military officials had been interrogated at an Iranian airport and released a day later after it became clear the U.S. plane had not entered intentionally.

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE4964ZV20081007

My first thought was that Bush is trying to provoke and incident. I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

20. Looks like it's okay, situation over?

From that Sky link:

"The agency added that the incursion was unintentional, and those on board were questioned and released. It said five senior US military officials were interrogated at an Iranian airport, but allowed to leave the following day after it became clear the incursion had been a mistake."

47. Bizarre contrast in reports between...
...Iranian state TV and the Fars news agency

Fars: the plane was a US Falcon carrying military officials

TV: it was European (passenger plane) with no Americans on board.

Much ado about nothing? Maybe.
