Are they trying to incite violence against Obama?

There. I've gone and actually said it. I never thought it's something I'd have to consider in American politics, but these are extraordinary times.

Are McCain and Palin and the rest of them trying to whip up so much hatred with this "domestic terrorist" and race-baiting stuff that one of their lunatic followers takes a shot at Obama? The way Palin's crowds have been reacting the last couple days have made me wonder. Has that calculation actually been made or bandied about in some RNC meeting? Or am I just being paranoid, and this is just their standard smear and fear campaign?

Because then they take it to court when Obama wins claiming that no candidate got a majority of electoral votes because Obama was not alive when the election occurred.

Yes, I am going there. I sincerely believe that McCain is attempting to ratchet up teh rhetoric to a point where some nut kills Obama.
