Braun fails to get on New York primary ballot
Democratic presidential hopeful Carol Moseley Braun will not be on the ballot for New York's March 2 presidential primary, her campaign manager said Tuesday.

"We are, what shall we say, a low-budget, independent campaign in the Democratic primaries," said campaign manager Patricia Ireland, formerly president of the National Organization for Women. "We really have not been able to cover all the states we would have preferred."

Braun, a former Illinois senator, is the only woman among the nine major candidates seeking the Democratic nomination. All the others have filed petitions to secure places on New York's primary ballot.

New York requires Democratic candidates to collect the signatures of at least 5,000 party members statewide to be in the primary.

1. Carol, I love you, I was in your District in IL when you ran and won.
Now, however, it is time to hang up the boots. Your new position under the nominee as Ambassador to the UN is pretty solid.

2. that's a shame
I would think that she would have done well there. She has been a calm, positive and articulate presence in the debates I have heard.

4. She isn't running to win
There seems to be two possibilities as to why she is running:

1. To rehabiltate her repuatation after losing her Senate seat

2. To split the African-American vote so that Al Sharpton does not gain too much influence in the party.

8. Well, there's one bona fide, anti-war candidate down
just 2 more to go and Dean won't be lying as badly as he now is.

10. Well, Shrub won't be on the Illinois ballot in November.
Shrub will not be on the Illinois ballot this November, unless the law is changed; the repuke Convention comes too late to meet the deadline for the IL ballot.

Don't ya just LOVE it?

11. This kinda proves the "vanity campaign" thing, don't it?
I mean, how in the hell do you expect to win the Democratic nomination without winning a goodly chunk of New York's large number of delegates? She's wasting her time, and she's wasting our time.

Note: In the 24th District alone, Howard Dean got nearly 1000 signatures. The 24th is the home turf of Republican Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, and Democrats are outnumbered 2 to 1.

13. I'm sorry but how much can it cost
to collect 5000 signatures in in NY? All you have to do is go to Washington Square Park for about 4 hours and you would have it!

I'm really sorry Ms. Mosley Braun has to struggle to raise money--and I hate when she gets asked about it, too--but somehow I just feel like this is mismanagement in the campaighn. JMHO.
