I don't know how much more of this election I can take.
What the hell is the McCain campaign doing?

I can't believe the ugliness they are injecting into this campaign. They can't think this is a winning strategy. They must know they're going to lose. So it would seem that they are emboldening racists and bigots simply out of spite.

I actually felt my blood pressure rise when I opened this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7379694&mesg_id=7379694

This has to be the least patriotic campaign in American history and I'm not sure how much more of it I can take.

:grr:

Thanks for letting me rant.

1. I know what you mean.
When I woke up this morning, I vowed not to use the phrase "fucking asshole" today. I didn't get through the morning news.

4. The McCain campaign is a flailing attempt to change the subject.... as long as we don't let 'em,
we'll be fine.

5. It will get worse...
The Republicans will pull out even more character assassination in the next few weeks. More guilt by association. Personally, I think it will backfire...

I even hear McCain is going to have a high level strategy meeting on Nov 5 to energize his campaign.

7. He's so desperate he's taking down his own party.
Among the several campaign ads I see for state seats, not a single republican uses the term "Republican" in their ads.

He is an embarrassment.

I feel your rant.

8. K & R!!!
I have started having the exact same thought the past few days. I just don't know how much more suspense and nastiness I can take. I don't know if I can take another 26 days of this craziness!!! This has been a BIZARRE election season unlike any I've ever had the (dis-)pleasure of witnessing!!!

9. Stay calm. Breathe.
It's hard all right. Especially when you live with a life long Democrat who won't vote for Obama, just because he's black!!! Believe me, every day I have a hard time keeping myself from throwing the proverbial frying pan at a certain someone, let alone the assholes on tv.

Put on some soothing music and try to think about something happy. You'll make it and come Nov. 5, you'll be jumping for joy!!!

12. Oh, I feel for you.
I really do.

And thanks for reminding me that other people are suffering much worse from this election. Everyone I know is voting for Obama and I live in a Democratic oasis. I really don't have much to complain about. I can turn off the television and ignore this election, other people, such as yourself, aren't so lucky. What a shitty situation.

I might go freeze myself and thaw out on 11/5.

I can't take it either.

11. Lol. I wish we could freeze ourselves.
But, with my luck, I would be frozen through the entire Obama administration and subsequent years of Democratic governance and wake up to the Jenna Bush administration. :puke:

14. I feel the same way Kristi1696. I thank goodness for DU's ability
to "talk me down", seriously.

I've been seesawing between sadness that there are some truly ugly souled Christians out here (they are anti-Jesus yet they're also the biggest, loudest bible thumping hypocrites on the planet) and extreme anger every time I see a Mccain/Palin KKK rally or see a disgusting Mccain advert on television.

Sometimes I just have to turn it all off to get away from it but at the same time, I want to be fully aware of what the "enemy" is up to.

Sad. This entire campaign seems like it's a battle of Good vs. Evil.

16. They're slapping our country across the face.
That's what it feels like to me.

Their antics are such an insult to what America is, or at least what we want it to be.

15. If McCain's tactics ever worked, this country would deserve what it got
I guess in a democracy you always get what you deserve. My image of America is a place that won't fall for this.

I'll find out in the next four weeks how delusional I am.

If they can't win they'll at least make sure about 1/3 of the country HATES Obama.

18. I don't know either, Kristi
Yesterday I was watching - WHY, WHY, WHY? - Race for the White House and that idiot Mika from M.Joe was subbing for the loathesome David Gregory. She so obviously spun every single thing that came out of her mouth for the McCain campaign that I thought I was going to implode - then had the audacity to tell an Obama spokesman that he was reading talking points. OMG. I have high blood pressure, so I should know better than to watch that shit.

It's going to be the longest 26 days I can remember in a long time.

19. I'm voting early tomorrow in Indiana
...and then I'm pretty much dropping out. The senate campaign in Kentucky (I just moved here, which is why I'm voting where I used to live) is extraordinarily ugly and negative; fortunately, we're isolated from presidential campaign commercials here, since the outcome is pretty much already assured.

20. This election season has served as a powerful object lesson
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 10:45 AM by Chovexani
In just how much people hate me and people who look like me.

Granted, this is not news--it's pretty much thrown in your face from the day you're born a woman of color in this country--it's just that this election season has left absolutely no doubt as to how hateful and ignorant this country is about race. And I'm not just talking about the knuckledragging klan types in the GOP, I'm talking about the it-would-be-funny-were-it-not-hurtful Black People Love Us behavior I've seen among liberals. I've always been aware of it but god damn is it an epidemic.

On the positive side, I see far more white people* talking about race where they might never have had to confront it before, and a lot more dialog going on between folks. And that's always a good thing. I think a lot of eyes have been opened. We clearly have a ways to go (there's always at least two threads on here that make me cringe, and today is no exception), but I'm feeling good about it. I've seen a lot of people wake up and commit to anti-racism.

Where gender is concerned though, I'm far less optimistic. We're a country of unrepentant misogynists, regardless of race, religion or political orientation (and, sadly it seems, even gender), and we have much, much farther to go in that regard.

*Please don't mistake this for me calling out white people. What I'm saying is that one of the benefits of white privilege is being able to ignore race and race-related issues.

24. The worst part of this week for me has been the news of
just how hateful the McPalin crowds have become. The worst part is the way McPalin is not forcefully speaking out against it.
