I feel good about North Carolina
I think it can be done. Many of those elderly white racists who put Jesse Helms in the Senate are six feet under the ground now. No doubt there is still a big racist redneck vote in the small towns, but the state is filling up with non-Southerners; there are large black populations in many of the cities and some of the rural counties, and then there is the Research Triangle, which is full of highly educated high-tech workers, academics and students.

Also, Democrats control everything in North Carolina, the governorship, the Attorney General and the Secretary of State. Our people will count the votes not their people.

And Jesse Helms is still dead, and that means 1 less vote for McCain.

2. We are sick of everyone thinking we are all redneck racists down here.
We are fighting hard for Obama.

4. Ain't that the truth!?!
I feel good when I see the electoral maps with a Tar Heel blue NC, but I'll feel better when it's Duke blue (and I'm a UNC fan!)

3. We need to turn Wake County (Raleigh) blue for Prez, though
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 10:46 AM by kick-ass-bob
All the lower races back in '04 - including Bowles v Burr for Senate went to the Democrats, but the presidential went for Bush by 8000 votes (2%)

Details are at this link:
http://msweb03.co.wake.nc.us/bordelec/downloads/04nov_official_summary.rtf

and you can see the marked difference. This county is huge, as it has the 2nd largest population in the state. We must take it back to Obama.

7. The Democratic Secretary of State is key.
I am worried about Colorado being stolen -- they are purging one in five voters there, and the Bushie Sec. of State is behind it.

8. Keith had the NC governor on last night.
He said he hoped McCain would forego any further campaign appearances in his state.

I thought that lacked cordiality, and I loved it.

9. I posted this in another thread, but here:
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/local/story/224403.html

From the article:

Of North Carolina's 603,000 new voters this year, 48 percent are Democrats and 21 percent Republicans. Nearly a third are independents.

By comparison, in 2004, Democrats made up 39 percent of new voters and Republicans, 34 percent.

Among the trends:

African Americans, who make up about 22 percent of the state's population, account for more than 30 percent of new voters.

Five counties – Mecklenburg, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford and Wake – account for more than a third of all new registrations.

Nearly 210,000 new voters are 18 to 24. Only one in five registered Republican.

New registrations appear to be one reason Obama has moved into a virtual tie with McCain in recent N.C. polls.
