Michael Kinsley -- McCain exploded with rage while gambling in Puerto Rico
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 11:33 AM by Cheney Killed Bambi
Michael Kinsley used to host Crossfire on CNN and is a highly respected person. So this story will not be easily dismissed.

McCain’s game is craps. So is Jeff Dearth’s. Jeff was at the table when McCain showed up and happily made room for him. Apparently there is some kind of rule or tradition in craps that everyone’s hands are supposed to be above the table when the dice are about to be thrown. McCain—“very likely distracted by one of the many people who approached him that evening,” Jeff says charitably—apparently was violating this rule. A small middle-aged woman at the table, apparently a “regular,” reached out and pulled McCain’s arm away. I’ll let Jeff take over the story:

“McCain immediately turned to the woman and said between clenched teeth: ‘DON’T TOUCH ME.’ The woman started to explain...McCain interrupted her: ‘DON’T TOUCH ME,’ he repeated viciously. The woman again tried to explain. ‘DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO?’ McCain continued, his voice rising and his hands now raised in the ‘bring it on’ position. He was red-faced. By this time all the action at the table had stopped. I was completely shocked. McCain had totally lost it, and in the space of about ten seconds. ‘Sir, you must be courteous to the other players at the table,’ the pit boss said to McCain. “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? ASK ANYBODY AROUND HERE WHO I AM.”

This being Puerto Rico, the pit boss might not have known McCain. But the senator continued in full fury—“DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO? DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?”—and crisis was avoided only when Jeff offered to change places and stand between McCain and the woman who had touched his arm.

1. McCain: UNFIT TO BE PRESIDENT.
Hot temper. Short fuse. Reactive. Raging just below the surface.

America cannot take the risk of letting this man's anger get out of control at the wrong moment.

UNFIT. UNFIT. UNFIT.

3. Then he shoved Don Rickles to the floor and kicked him
McCain's language was shocking and hateful, but nothing Joe Lieberman hasn't heard from him before and put up with.

6. What's with the endless stream of stories re:McCain gambling
and no one (read: the media/talking heads) really taking notice??

Isn't gambling considered on par with drinking, drugs, sex? Too much is a bad thing, or an addiction or shows compulsion?

If there were a stream of stories of a presidential candidate out boozing all the time, people would be concerned, right?

It's not like there has been one story. Or a couple over the span of many years. In just the past few weeks there have been all of these accounts of his love of gambling and particularly dice games.

I remember reading one major maj blog (can't remember which one) and the reporter said that McCain had his campaign plane circle over the airport while he finished a dice or card game and left supporters waiting at a rally. WTF?

Can you imagine if Barack was seen hitting up the craps table all of the time? Well, he isn't, instead we have to listen to infantile drivel like his airplane smells bad, or whatever (from a CBS thingy someone posted yesterday.)

JUST. SO. EFFING. SICK. OF. THE. DOUBLE. STANDARD.!!!!!!!!!!

7. It could just be
that he really didn't know who he was, which is why he was asking everybody if they knew who he was. This is a clear sign of dementia, when you forget your own name and have to ask people if they know who you are.

8. Ah reminds me of a story... about Eddie Money...
Back in the late 70s/early 80s, my friends were playing at Madame Wongs in Santa Monica. The upstairs venue had it's own table and entry fee, and Eddie Money blustered his way up to the door and demanded to be let in for free. The two ladies that were selling tickets told him no, you have to have a ticket, and he let loose with that infamous "Don't you know who I am??" crap. the ladies did not.

Holly Hunter did the same thing when she backed into a brand new porsche in a beach town. She tried to brush it off when the owner confronted her.. and she did the "don't you know who I am?" thing, and the guy said "I don't care who YOU are, but I'm an attorney and you just hit my damn car!"

Note to celebs... never never utter the phrase "Don't you know who I am???" because either 1) they don't know who you are 2) they know who you are and don't give a shit.

9. these stories about character are important, because they begin to paint a picture of a candidate.
Too many of these stories start piling up and they share a common denominator: An angry and rude gambling addict. Great.

11. The man is pathological.
This kind of stuff makes Bush's whiny, stubborn petulance seem positively sane in comparison. We're talking Captain Queeg here; or maybe Captain Ahab.
