He was also incredulous when he said McCain was blaming Barney Frank for the worldwide financial crisis in his speech today.

4. Another "redneck" for Obama!!!!
Today we had Ben "Cooter" Jones and Ralph Stanley coming out hard for Obama. Many will dismiss it, but this kind of stuff is what the low info voters in the South eat up. The can associate these two with things that they love. I've already had two discussions today about Ralph Stanley being a huge Obama man - one of the guys I spoke with said "this changes things a great deal for me".

22. Thank You, Sir
Did Mr. Stanley do the marvelous version of 'Man of Constant Sorrow' featured in 'Brother Where Art Thou'? That name had begun to tug at my mind a little after posting my question.

24. Yes indeed. Same guy. He has some striking works out there - and Im no fan of country/bluegrass
The guy is just a bonafide badass. Check out the track "O' Death" on the O' Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. It's marvelous.

28. MOCS (as we sometimes call Man of Constant sorrow) is a Stanley bros. tune
But the version in the film, that you're most likely referring to, featured Dan Tyminski on guitar and lead vocals. Dan is a long-time member of Alison Kraus' band, Union Station.

your memory is really really bad -- he's a Democrat
He is and has been a Democrat. He most recently ran in 2002 in Virginia against Eric Cantor.

He served two terms as a Democratic congressman from Georgia (defeating an incumbent repub to get the seat) in 1988/1990. He was defeated in 1992, but ran again in 1994, targeting Newt Gingrich.

18. Democrat. And very open about it.
He opened up a shop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee modeled after the garage on the TV show. It's a very red area of the state, but he has always been there promoting candidates and other causes that we champion here.

He may not be as liberal as some of us here would like, but he's a great asset to the party and to the people of the state.

Edited for examples.

It's kind of like George Goober Lindsey or Jimmy JJ Walker.

30. I heard him earlier this week...
I liked what he said which was something like this: if you're drowning in the ocean, and a black man is the only one about to throw you a rope, you don't say , "Hey no, don't save me black man, don't save me. You're black. You hang onto that rope for dear life.."

exactly ....
