Bill Clinton and the Kerry-Edwards Campaign
I see considerable negative potential here.

Clinton is relatively young with no other underlying diseases and should do well after CABG surgery.

However, the average recovery for such surgery is at least 4-8 weeks.

Depending upon his doctor (and the doctor's political preferences), Clinton could be benched for much of the remainder of the game.

Sorry to add to the stack of bad news.

1. But if he comes back inn 4, he'll get Letterman-style attention, and while
he's recovering, people will worry about him.

It'll work out fine.

His convention speech was about 70% of the full potential impact he could have, and he was able to do that.

3. If His Doctor is An Ardent BushBot
Your scenario won't happen.

If Clinton has any number of "minor" complications, your scenario won't likely happen.

Bush will be flinging so much shit over the airways, there will be little focus on Clinton and his recovery.

If Clinton's post-op stress tests are not satisfactory, his doctors will put the brakes on politicking.

4. Clinton will get at least what Letterman got in terms of public interest
and like Letterman, a lot of people will tune in when Clinton's ready to talk about it.
