Breaking: Obama's native language not actually English (no, they're series!!)
This is completely stupid.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Breaking_Obamas_native_language_not_actually_English.html

After a bit of a lull, the viral emails and general nuttiness is cresting again, and my favorite "scoop" of the day is Jerome Corsi's WorldNetDaily report on secret emails between Obama -- personally -- and a Kenyan political leader.

A small glitch: These emails, above, appear not to have been written by a native English speaker, unless "I will kindly wish..." is a phrase I'm just unfamiliar with. They have the unmistakable flavor of solicitations from dying African princes, who need only your bank account details to make you wealthy beyond measure.

At least the Bush National Guard documents were written in the right language.

But no mind. Fox & Friends has already been all over it this morning.

ALSO: "WND was unable to reach the Obama campaign for a comment, as the campaign telephone system disconnected a WND call three times in a row without any provision to leave a message."

4. What is this email from?
Is it really from Obama?

Even if it is, who is it -to-? Is it someone for whom English is not a native language?

I work in technology and when I email my counterparts in India I frequently phrase certain things the way that they do, to help them read and understand my emails, and to make the emails seem more "familiar" to them. It's the simple art of writing with one's readership in mind.

9. ??
I don't understand your reaction. I'm not saying that it in any way indicates the stupid BS they are saying about Obama. I'm saying that when writing to foreign people, re-phrasing certain things in a way that is familiar to your reader is a perfectly legitimate thing to do.

What's your problem with that?

11. I'm saying that they're passing fakes.
Do you really write in broken English to people overseas?

19. I asked if it was a "real letter" all I got was "oh please"...
And I don't write in broken English (what I read in that letter didn't seem so much "broken" as oddly phrased) but I do put in some phrases I would never put in otherwise. I'm trying to think of them at the moment...

I frequently expand "Let's", to "Let us".

I use "prepone" which is a term that seems to be unique to Indian speakers, it's the opposite of "postpone".

But most of the changes in how I write are just to be -very- specific, very detailed, and excessively polite, which mirrors how my counterparts communicate with me from India. When you're communicating to another person halfway around the world, and business depends on it, writing as closely as possible to what your reader is used to is very important.

So I asked what I still feel was a legitimate question, and I raised legitimate points. If you just want to take it wrong and continue to be snide and nasty about it, have at it.

27. It may have been a real letter, but I doubt it was written by Senator Obama.
A real letter from World Net Daily, more like.

20. Perhaps...
When talking to India I sign my emails "Kindest regards," which I never do to US-speakers, because that's what they're used to.

I get it, you all want to be snide and crappy toward me rather than answering a legitimate question I had or listening to my point. Feel free to continue, I can see this was a pointless thread to even open.

25. You make a great point even if they want to make fun of you
There are some who deal with international customers who alter their verbiage to make the others comfortable. It's not a sin to alter the english language.

I read on one website that there are some from the Middle East who are impressed that Obama is the only candidate that pronounces Pakistan correctly.

13. Since Obama doesn't use a FUCKING YAHOO ACCOUNT to do his government correspondence,
shouldn't there be a record at senate.gov to determine the, ahem, veracity of this piece of shit?

Yeah. Obama, in 2006, is going to use "Brother" to address the Kenyan dude and sign his email "Obama".

so that's actually plausible, however I don't think it's a believable assessment of Barack Obama.

Really despicable.

It was really disgusting when the corporate media gave the jerk so much time to talk about his anti-Obama book knowing he is just a smear merchant.

And here he goes again. Deported as a liar and professional slanderer, he's trying to get back at the Kenyans with more smearing.
