The reason the GOP is panicking? They needed the race to be close in order to steal it...

If Obama goes into election day with a 10-point lead, they can't steal it.

They needed a 2 to 3 point lead tops for Obama.

That's why they're panicking. It's gotten outside the "Diebold-margin".

2. Agreed 100%, exactly.
With Obama pulling away they won't be able to program in the "Bradley Effect" extra 3% or whatever into their magic machines. The exit polls can't be 10% off in five states in McCain's favor and make it plausible.

And the kind of campaign he's running in the final weeks
isn't going to help turn out the numbers they need to steal
this one. All but the fundie fringe are bailing on BombBomb --
all the Rethuglican "intelligentsia" (to the extent they
exist) were turned off before but are REALLY distancing
themselves now as BombBomb drives his campaign into the
sewer. A lot of Rethugs are going to stay home on Nov. 4.

21. Yep
At least two hardcore Pubbies I know have decided that this is the last straw. (I don't think they'll go for Obama, but one mentioned casting a protest vote for Barr, which is at least better than voting for McSlime.)

7. The GOP is not panicked...McCain is
I don't think the GOP wants the White House, not this go around. They would rather see the Black Guy get it and screw up the country even more then they can ride in and save the day. The only one who truly wants it this time is McCain.

13. I think that there are a lot of Republicans who know they will go to jail if Obama is elected.
A lot of felonies have been committed over the past eight years and they can't put all the evidence in the shredders. Obama and Biden have promised to investigate. I'd say that there are some people feeling kind of nervous right now, and not just because their stock investments are tanking.

Why do you think the "Black guy" will screw up things "Even more"? Or do you believe like I do that they figure the mess they created is so bad that the next guy can't possibly succeed? Ok after re-reading your post that is what you are saying. Sorry.

8. If anything, these polls are underestimating Obama's support
but I am concerned they will still try and steal it. The Repugs are getting desperate and I would not put anything past them at this point.

17. There's not much they can do short of canceling the elections
at this point. Even if McCain showed up on national TV with a team of Navy SEALS and bin Laden in a cage, I don't think it would change things much. All the dirt on Obama (and there's evidently precious little of that) came out in the primaries. They can try a Diebold, but if Obama's ten-plus points up going in it's going to be hard to explain the discrepancy and I don't think they can count on media indifference this time around: people generally accept that there were serious irregularities in 2000 and 2004. I suppose they could declare McCain the winner, but they'd have to immediately shut down the media and declare martial law: if that happened then I think you'd see massive protests, etc. I'm guessing that few in the Republican party have a stomach for what would logically follow--better to take their lumps and plan for 2012. I'm actually heartened by the fact that both Bush and Cheney appear to have made elaborate plans to flee the country: it means they probably don't intend to stick around and try to rule as out-and-out dictators.

9. We need large pluralities in as many states as possible
...or it's all for naught. One, maybe two close states and they can use the Electoral College to steal it again.

GOTV! Watch your Polls! Tell your friends! Massive turnout EVERYWHERE!

18. In a way, the Repugs may be a victim of their own success.
Now that we know they can and will steal a close election, we don't get lulled into a false sense of security.

It's like when, say, a baseball team is ahead by 10 points and manages to lose the game.

Next time around they don't slack off, they keep piling it on.

20. A 10% lead is a 3% loss. The secret ballot always goes GOP.
I have already heard it from my repub friends. They don't believe the polls, and they believe white people will vote Obama in the voting booth.

Get ready to hear it on Nov. 4: The reason Obama lost on Nov. 3 is because people said Obama, but voted McCain.

I would go so far as to say that they will fix the results regardless of the vote.

And what will we do about it? Nothing as usual.

Dream on. They will never let Obama win.

I hope I am the most surprised person in the country on Nov. 4, but its just not likely.

24. The number of states with blackbox voting is smaller than it was in 2004..... PLUS

The Sec of State of Ohio isn't a corrupt Republican this time.

The governors and secs of state in most of the battleground states are Democrats now. Their ability to "fix the results" is much more limited than it used to be.

25. This strategy won't work this time
The last two elections were all about things coming down to one or two large-ish states where things were close enough to then steal. O has put so many more states in play that the Repukes can't tell which ones will be decisive. They knew where they had to steal votes in 00 and 04. They have no idea this year. Also, there are a lot more Dem governors and secretaries of state than there were in 00/04.

I will be shocked if O isn't up 10-12 points nationally in the last national polls. Grampy has lost PA and MI already, things look bleak in OH and highly competitive to O leading in NC, VA, MO, CO and NM. MN, WI and IA all look solidly blue. This is going to be a Repuke bloodbath, and the king shits in the party know it. It's coming down to loss mitigation at this point.

After the election they will turn on each other like rats in a cage, and the alliance between the fundies and plutocrats will finally be over. But keep the wooden stakes handy just in case.
