The legion of rats leaving a sinking ship is overwhelming the Internet, news web sites, and this typist.

And I’m not just talking about conservative columnists like George Will or David Brooks. The most hard core Republicans don’t consider them good conservatives since they seem to know how to write. But others can’t be dismissed so easily.

Christopher Buckley: Sorry, Dad, I’m Voting for Obama
The son of William F. Buckley has decided—shock!—to vote for a Democrat.

Mrs. Hagel to Endorse Obama

William C. Ibershof, “Deep Throat” & lead Federal prosecuter of the Weather Underground, attacks McCain over smearing Obama with Ayers association.

Elizabeth Drew: How John McCain lost me

Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Md)

Former Michigan Republican governor Milliken backs away from McCain

Seven-term Republican Congressman, Ray LaHood: Palin Should Stop It

Michelle Laxalt, daughter of former Republican Senator Paul Laxalt (NV)

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough says Palin “just seems out of her league.”

National Review Editor Rich Lowry called her performance “dreadful.”

Dallas Morning News columnist Rod Dreher described the interview as a “train wreck.”

Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker urged Palin to quit the race, saying: “If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.”More Republicans & Conservatives

etc., etc., etc.

Will there be any but the most hardbitten thugs left on Nov. 4 to vote McPalin?

Projecting through the Screen

A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It's one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O'Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it.

2. William F. Buckley would be appalled with her, McCain, and their sorry, disreputable campaign.
Palin makes Joe appear almost statesman like. Please note the words "appear" and "almost".

3. William C. Ibershof, wasn't Deep Throat, Mark Felt was
I took info from an article that was incorrect.

I think he was just suspected of being Deep Throat on a long list of people.

5.  Sorry, Dad, I'm Voting for Obama
The Christopher Buckley piece is entertaining:

The son of William F. Buckley has decided—shock!—to vote for a Democrat.

Let me be the latest conservative/libertarian/whatever to leap onto the Barack Obama bandwagon. It’s a good thing my dear old mum and pup are no longer alive. They’d cut off my allowance.
