"Hasn't John Lewis earned the right to say whatever he wants about George Wallace-tactics?"

Deep Thought

Hasn't John Lewis earned the right to say whatever he wants about George Wallace-tactics? I think Rep. Lewis is the best qualified person alive to opine on such matters. And I think McCain is out of line to ask the Obama campaign to repudiate Lewis' remarks.

Did McCain Just Walk Into a Trap?

I know this because white folks tell me so.

13. They're afraid to have the topic broached because they think they themselves might be implicated.
Most people have a desperate need to see themselves, and be seen, as "good people," whether they actually are or not. And looking too closely at this topic might show a lot of "good people" to be not-so-good in reality. Hence the knee-jerk "Shut the hell up! You're crazy!" reaction from a lot of (white) folks.

5. Yes! And McCain has talked about how much he respects and admires
him. He can say whatever he wants and it's not up to Barack to say anything in response.

14. You'd think so.
Just Like 4 star general Wes Clark had earned the right to question whether being shot down in a plane made one qualified to be President. Guess Clark's bullet holes didn't help him with the Right Wing Media pit bulls!

18. I know one thing...
John McCain voted against the MLK holiday just 2 years before I was born. John Lewis is an American hero and when he sees injustice, he will speak his mind. He is in a far better position to speak about these issues than John McCain.

I especially thank him for being candid in relating what McCain's town-hall meetings and stump speeches represent. Any person with decency and a conscience would see what McCain and Palin were up to.

I also hope that Lewis' words continue to disturb the hell out of McCain. McCain was not shy in promoting racism along with Palin. He should be brave enough to take the mantle of being a racist because of his behavior.

22. The turn of events here is VERY interesting.
Lewis has pretty much cornered McCain and the Obama camp response to what Lewis said was maestro-like.

Luther King has no right to demand an apology from Representative Lewis.

27. That and his actions during this election, and
he has the audacity to feign outrage.

He deserves to be called out and publicly ridiculed.
