I've spoken with many people who support Bush primarily because they believe he has made us safer since 9/11. They cite that we haven't had another attack and that he's gone after the terrorists.
After some consideration, I feel it is essential that we remind that we are NOT safer now than we were four years ago. We need to get the message out that Bush has ignored border security and port security, done little to correct our intelligence shortcomings, given lipservice to the unsecured Russian weapons caches and, most significantly, his war in Iraq has taken valuable resources away from the fight against terrorism and has stirred up more of the kind of resentment towards America that leads to terrorism in the first place.
Kerry has to go after Bush for saying that we can't win the war on terror and for the 'catastrophic success' comment, and we need to get the message out that we don't feel safer under Bush. Tell your friends and neighbors, write ltte, etc. Remember Richard Clarke and Sibel Edmonds. Bush has lulled the voters into complaceny.
I hate to keep harpipng on this point (and perhaps it is inappropriate), but from my knowledge of the Hitler's rise to power, Bush is using some of the same highly effective campaign tactics. People feel powerless and helpless but they believe Bush will take care of them. Let them know that Bush has done little to help so far.
