Had a talk with my staunchly repub neighbor last night, I need my smelling salts..
My neighbor is a very sweet southern older lady, BUT is a Rush Limbaugh listening repub. She told me last night:

1) She's voting for Obama, the first Democrat she's voted for since JFK...:wow:

2) The main reason for this is because McCain is old and the prospect of Sarah Palin being President scares the shit out of her. She thinks she's a total moron and her husband is a nutjob...

3) She's always liked John McCain's anger, she thinks it's good for politicians to be angry once in a while, but she thinks he's become a different man...

4) She loves Joe Lieberman and wishes he would run again for President...:puke:

5) She is shocked at the racism against Obama that she hears, don't they see that he's half white?....:eyes:

I thanked her for using reason and common sense in her decision, and I agreed that we can't risk having a power hungry ditz like Palin in the White House.

I think all Obama has to do is stay the course on Wednesday night with his calm reassuring reasonable demeanor, and he's in the bag.

:woohoo: :kick:

1. Calm, reasoned, and reassuring. Yes, that is
what Americans need right now. I agree. And good for your neighbor.

2. Good for her. And regarding point #5,
It was smart of the Obama campaign to put out the ad that featured his mother and maternal grandparents. It's sad, but necessary to appeal to people who fear his race. When it's tempered by the fact that he is half-white, it might make some people think and reconsider.

4. Gee, that's great
What should black men and women who are not involved in interracial relationships tell their "all black" child about his or her prospects for becoming President in this country?

Regards

unfortunately we're dealing with 400 years of racism in this country, perhaps this is the only way we can get over this particular hurdle.

10. Sadly I agree
But the good news is it is progress.

We all know it shouldn't matter but at this point in American History it still does to an extent.

We as Americans will get there., it's just going to take longer than many of us want.

13. they should tell them that
barack obama represents them too
his gains are their gains
we are building a world now where it wont be an issue

always remember that when barack left his house and was seen by the population without the context of his white family
when he was looked at by cops and teachers
shopkeepers and anyone else who crossed his path
he was seen as a black man

to society at large he IS a black man and his gains are the gains of all black people regardless of the depth of color

14. They should tell their child this:

If you want to become president, you will not be judged by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character.

It's up to us to make that statement true, but if Barack gets elected, we'll have taken the largest step.

11. I agree - and they are from the Heartland -- Kansas.
The Republicans seems to think if you say Heartland, they are talking about the true America. Whatever that is besides a state of mind. I haven't heard them talk about the Heartland this year, though. Maybe it's the Kansas thing with Barack's grandparents. Who knows ...

Oh, yeah, just remembered ... the new buzz word is 'small-town'. Silly me.

3. She's the type who might change her mind at the last minute though.
You have to get to work de-programming her while you can.

Download some of these podcasts and put them on a CD for her:

6. Agreed, she's very anxious to watch the debate Wednesday night..
but I think she's so dead set against Palin it would take something very big to swing her back.

That Palin choice was absolutely toxic for most women voters.
