Enemy mischief. the 401k calculator

We need a comeback to this...

Today ASA and ATR, in partnership with Rutledge Capital, is launching a new “2008 Election 401(k) Calculator.” It will be prominently featured on the ASA website through the election, and will go live on the ATR website at 1PM EST.

The calculator asks you to input the value of your 401(k). Then, it recalculates what your 401(k) will be worth under four different tax scenarios:

The Obama plan to raise the cap gains and dividends rate to 20%
The McCain plan to cut the corporate income tax rate from 35% to 25% and expense equipment
The Hill Democrat/Obama-in-the-Primaries plan to raise the capital gains tax to 28% and the dividends tax to 39.6%, and
The ATR plan to cut the capital gains a dividends rate to 0%, cut the corporate rate to 25%, and expense equipment
Since it’s a widget, the code is available by clicking “get this widget.” It can be loaded up on any blog or website.

Put in the value of your 401(k) and see what happens.

7. What good is a 401k with no jobs?
Those scenarios paint an unflattering picture of what effect the plans would have on a 401k, but they do nothing to quantify the benefits such plans would harbor in the way of job creation, job security, expanding the middle class, etc.
