1. He's a GOP crone. That's all they've got.
MSNBC should not have broken away from the rally. I tuned into CSPAN.

3. even Repub shills like Pat Buchanan have been saying he's erratic.
They were trying to push the erratic=old line on Chris Matthews show too...it's not our fault that McCain is all over the place, he's ALWAYS been like that.

10. and even on the Chris Matthews show
they were saying that everything John McCain does DOES feed into the erratic, old guy image, so it's true. In contrast, nothing that McCain/Palin says about Obama is reflected in his behavior or performance.

4. I agree. People could associate an old person with reliability...
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 03:42 PM by Eric J in MN
...rather than erratic-ness.

Unless that old person acts erratic, like McCain with his changing mortage-plan.

6. ERRATIC = UNRELIABLE! Not old. Why don't Republicans use a dictionary or thesaurus?
I don't get these stupid fuckers.

How is calling McCain erratic the equivalent of what they've been doing, which is to throw gasoline on a fire of resentment and scapegoating already burning in the hearts of the bigoted ugly Americans out there ready to hate on Obama?

A lot of people in this country would do harm to an old person rather than see them become President.

11. I was watching C-Span and switched over for a second to see if
MSNBC was carrying it. And they had some idiot talking head in a side screen running it down. Then I thought, many people out there are probably watching it on MSNBC, because they probably never watch C-Span like most of us do. I might be wrong, but it really pisses me off.

They can't stay focused. They are flailing about in desperation. Erratic is the perfect word to describe his campaign at this point.

15. Mika Brzezinski has forbidden her guests to say that word on MSNBC
Several times last week, especially when she took over for David Gregory on his show, she prevented her guests from using the word "erratic". She said she was tired of it and every time someone said the word, she rolled her eyes and asked them not to use it.

16. (shrug) So what if it's a code word for old, senile, disengaged from reality....
and all the rest? No-one really expects him to be alive within the next couple of years (thru natural causes) - and that's a perfectly valid thing to bring up.

17. erratic is a code word for old
old, feebleminded, lacking clear judgement, ect.

I mean, it has the advantage of being true, because his behavior itself IS erratic, but it has the added bonus of being a code word for old.

to deny that is to deny the reality of code words in politics. Nobody just throws a word out like erratic and has all their spokespeople say it unless they're trying to send both an overt and subtle message.

20. honestly, what other word would be used, if he were a young guy?
I always thought that erratic was more a code word for (in addition to his lack of consistent strategy) his temper.

22. Synonyms: unpredictable, unstable, capricious
Everyone is predictable and stable until they reach, say, 70 years of age or so. Clearly this is ageism at its worst. Not to mention unpatriotic proving Obama hates America.

28. They're shooting themselves in the foot
If erratic is a code word for old, very very few people would make that connection.

However, when you go out on TV and start saying "old, old, old", you are framing your own candidate in a bad way, so people think "Oh yeah. McCain is old."

Let them whine.

29. No...
McCain just happens to be both old and erratic. He also happens to be a three time cancer survivor who appears to have a real problem with his gambling "hobby." Overall these character traits don't add up to a successful Commander in Chief. We don't need code - we just need to tell the truth about the Cadaverick.
