RE: Kitty Kelley's book.
This thing is nuclear. I had no idea it was this bad. Now, that being said - it is sweet justice for the smear and fear gang and I do believe that this will eventually hurt the Bushes. People love this type of stuff and the National Equirer will be all over it. Look what they did to the Clintons. Even if people dismiss it at first it plants a seed. (Just like the swift smears) And the Bush family will get on it's high horse and say "Of course it is not true" and refuse to answer questions which will make people want to read it more. Then if they do attack it - it will give the book some credibility.

However, the Dems SHOULD NOT TOUCH THIS WITH A TEN FOOT POLE if it contains what I read about in other threads. Kerry should say, "I don't read that type of National Equirer stuff. Let's deal with the issues." He should not respond if he thinks it's true. He should just say "I haven't read it. I don't plan to. This election should be about the American people and their issues." And repeat, repeat, repeat.

Let karma take care of the Bush smear gang. Kerry should concentrate on us ....

1. How much play will it really get?
I mean, it is Kitty Kelley. I doubt it would make much news if it were about any candidate.

Before the internet, etc. I'm just being skeptical about any effect this might have.

12. With the so-called 'news networks' going more tabloid-like
This book could get some serious play.

Though it is interesting that ten days before it's release, we haven't really heard much about it.

I remember her Nancy Reagan book got insane amounts of press when it was released.

23. It's #13 on Amazon at the time I'm posting.
I predict it's going to be high on the NYT best seller list very quickly.

2. Well - as for the Bush-Nazi information I HOPE Kerry and Edwards say
"the allegations are very troubling that the Bushes backed Hitler in WWII and are in business with the Saudis and Bin Ladens today"

3. Amen! If the info is true...
Then I do hope they at least say how "compelling" it is. One minute some DUers say get tough, then they say play nice-nice. Well I say the rnc convention proved that the nice-nice is now out of style. Play hard against these fuck faces, way too much at stake!

7. I'm with you. I think
Kerry ought to say, "There are some serious allegations here, but I think people ought to judge for themselves." In other words, break out the popcorn and the reading light.

9. Slor - You got that right!

The clock is ticking!

If the polls are telling us that smears work, that is a shame. That is not the way I want our country to be.
But, reality is a bitch and we'll have to face it.

Let the truth come out folks, let it pour down like a mighty stream!
Let KK and MM be the saviors for the American people.

If KK is telling lies it's on her, not us,we did not write the book, she did! She did not ask us for one drop of information.

Nice Nice gloves are off from now on!

Tick tock tick tock tick tock

That shizzit is actual HISTORY!

Why say it is not troubling or we don't think it?

As something of a Holocaust scholar I can't think about much else.

The Bushes are the same people we fought AGAINST in WWII: Nazis!

If we don't confront them with it we are doomed to become dead fools.

22. During the 2000 Campaign.......................
One of Gore's advisors suggested drawing a picture of the link between the Nazi Third Reich and Prescott Bush (I think it was Prescott) who was a banker for the nazis.

But Al Gore did not want to use this info because he was afraid the repubs would retaliate by reminding everyone of the fact that Gore's ancestors were slave-owners.

But, I think we should start talking about *'s grandfather's work for the nazis.

And we should also start reminding everyone that Karl Rove's father and Arnold Shwarzeneggar's father were both nazis.

I mean, the truth is the truth. We Democrats should just let the truth be our friend.

First, it is not clear these charges are in the book.

Second, even if they are, I don't think mainstream media will touch it.

But like I said on another thread, it will probably go to number one on the bestsellers list while being studiously ignored by mainstream media.

So it might have some effect.

However, if it does blow up and get major press then Bush can kiss the election goodbye.

18. No, they shouldn't.
Did you hear Bush picking up the Swift Hoax line? No, they pretend to honor Kerry's service, because they know to publicly do otherwise would make them look like scum. It's the shadowy groups that can pick up stuff like this and run with it.

Again and again, it's the binary "Do this or you're playing nice and you're going to lose." I realize politics bring out the emotions in people, but try to let your reasoning power overwhelm your emotional desire to hit back all the time. Angry but smart beats angry every time.

26. That's what surrogates are for.
Papa Bush. Bob Dole. Etc. Kerry has surrogates who will take the hit. Dean is one of them (he's been fabulous, by the way), and Hillary can do it, too. Let the (must be well spoken) congressional young bloods who want some face time go on the different shows and make the attacks. Let Honest John stay clean. That's how a general runs a war -- by managing his troops and not wasting HIS energy on every skirmish. :)

13. Why Should JK Say, "I don't read that stuff"?
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 12:51 PM by UTUSN
He might say, "I am so busy right now I haven't had time to read it, so I can't pass judgment on it and won't have the time before this election."

Everybody else--------GO READ IT!!!!!

Plus, KELLEY is a known quantity with a proven track record over a long, long time. There is no way she would be considered "a plant".

Don't be baited with hypotheticals, either.

"I haven't read the book and don't plan to do so."

17. What It Contains
*******QUOTE*******

http://www.nypost.com/seven/08302004/gossip/cindy.htm

August 30, 2004 -- ....

THE gossip around: Kitty Kelley's Bush family vivisection gets published right after the convention, when residents return to civilization. It allegedly "has five major revelations." Supposedly, familial indiscretions naming names, places, times, etceteras. Plus W's documented missing year and service record.

19. The media need to run with it for it to really get legs.
The non-affiliated groups need to run with it. The cool thing is, this can hurt Bush with his base of fundies. His daughters are boozing, smoking, slutty-dressing losers, and now this comes out -- there's a potential crack between him and the bible thumpers forming. He's running a campaign based on the idea that he can win with just his base, but if part of his base starts seeing him as a man other than he portrays himself, it's going to hurt.

20. There is a possibility
that if there is something in there about Bush's missing military years that it might make mainstream news or some appearances by her. I'm hoping in that I'm sure they won't touch the other stuff--afraid of Bushes and their wacko followers. But, if they can get this much on the air, then people will buy the book and read more. If anything, there might be something here and there in print on this book. But, damn, if Dem operatives and spinmiesters, etc. yack it on tv it might just force the news media and talk shows to grab on to this. If there's anything, pleeeease let Dem talking heads and operatives blather it on tv.

21. Kerry should say...
... we denounce all of these smear books written by shadowy figures. We call on our opponents to do the same.

Then he should send out hundreds of surrogates to say "This raises some serious questions that should be looked into..." and make sure that they keep repeating it over and over.

It won't happen though. The media won't give it any play and what they do say is that they have learned from the swift boat vets how much their coverage of less than credible stories can have damaging effects on a campaign. It is amazing how they always learn their lessons when they come at the expense of Democrats.

24. Well, we know she'll be on Larry King.
He loves her. Has her on every time there's a discussion of the Royal Family because of her book The Royals.

So, for what it's worth, he's given her credibility.

And with Sharon Bush as a source, it should get lots and lots of airtime.

Then maybe someone will have Kevin Phillips on to discuss the Bush family in light of the Kelley book.

This could be VERY interesting.

Personally, I do not care, but the Fundies should be made aware.

And after the Clinton witchhunt, everything is fair game.
