6. Kerry was also down big prior to the first debate.
It was his debate performances that got him back into the race, but it was never enough to push him ahead of Bush.

This time in 2004, Bush held a modest average lead and even the debates didn't change that.

19. Bush wasn't ahead after the first debate. Kerry still held modest leads in most polls
and Zogby even said he was going to win. That was before the Bin Laden tape showed up three days before the election. Then, from what I heard about internal polls- Kerry flatlined and couldn't get above a virtual tie.

20. Wrong.

Your facts are wrong.

Kerry was down by a large margin entering the first debate. After the first debate, he tied it, but as the race continued through October, Bush built a minimal lead.

Here is an average of polls from 2004:

Notice something?

Kerry never held a lead in the average of polls from late August on. It wasn't a wide margin for Bush, as the month of October was 2-4 in Bush's favor, but it was a winning margin regardless. Also, the start of October was when the race tightened. What happened at the start of October? The first presidential debate.

Obama has consistently held a 5-8 point lead in RealClear Politics national poll average since late September.
