Help! I'm surrounded by idiots!

We had two couples over for dinner tonight, all friends we have known for years. Somehow, the subject of the election came up. I mentioned my fear that Obama needs a greater spread in the polls, because we have a lot of closet racists in this country still.

My friend's wife looked at me and said, "Obama isn't black, he's a muslim!" She then went on a tear about all the reasons he's not really a citizen, he's an arab, etc., etc.

We've never seen eye to eye politically, which is fine by me, but tonight I finally realized what a complete racist, bigoted idiot this woman is.

OK, rant over.

Did you argue with her? kick her out? ignore it?

"I can't believe you would buy or spread that kind of crap," and I went into the kitchen and washed the dinner dishes. No need to ruin the evening for everyone else.

Of course, inquiring about Reverend Wright seems the best follow up. Let her rant about how crazy and reverse-bigoted Wright is... and his church... and then ask her about her opinion of how reverends fit into the Islamic "Church" hierarchy... and maybe probe to see if Reverends are part of the Sunni or Shi'ite Islamic tradition, and then maybe set up a trap and if the answer is Shi'ite, ask if reverends have a lot of political sway in Saudi Arabia (soundly Sunni country), or if the answer is Sunni, reverse the question to iranian ties.

If, by this point said woman has not noticed that she is retarded... you might suggest that she should really drop a line to Lieberman's office, asking for some clarifications, since Lieberman seems to like to dedicate himself to trying to make right-leaning idiots sound less retarded....

She is a good friend of Mrs. av8rdave, so I let it go out of respect for her.

I did tell her, after everyone left, how absolutely brain - dead stupid I think that woman is.

How can people be so ill-informed? I think they believe what they want to believe, and to hell with the truth.

Something similar happened to me at work this week. I just got up and walked out. I'm not going to listen to their b.s., and I know I'm not going to convince them otherwise. They are just stupid, ignorant, bigoted blockheads.

I posted a story about this same person this summer. We were at a local lake to watch the 4th of July fireworks. She had been prattling on about how a coworker of hers "just wasn't very Christian."

A few minutes later, as we watched a hispanic family near us play games with their kids while they awaited the fireworks, she said some horrible things about "those Mexicans."

Gosh. A family. Spending time with their kids. Celebrating our country's independence. Pretty awful, huh?

Yes, this lady is quite the Christian!

be to recognize the man as having been on TV as a representative of one of the families that can trace their family back to the original Spanish land grants and whose Great(x whatever) Grandfather or Uncle died defending the Alamo!

I got tired of replying to the myriad "he's a muslim/terrorist/anti-American" emails and finally wrote a lengthy, rather all-encompassing reply, essentially focusing on the fact that THEY'RE FUCKING RACISTS and BIGOTS and that's all this is about!!!!

But I know how you feel. It's just unfathomable how stupid some people are. And there really is no reasoning with them, as they are operating on emotion and not logic. And you're right: she really is - knowingly or not - a racist. She may cloak it in other words, and perhaps not even admit it to herself, but that's really what's driving it.

But it would be fun to ask her what being a Muslim has to do with being President.
